"redshirting" issue - I have a November child (cutoffs Dec 1) and am not redshirting, and she is fine. Anyone else?

- My dd is an aug. bday and cut off for private is Sept 1. I'm not leaving her back

- I was a Nov bday and was always the youngest. DH was an Oct. bday and the oldest. Suited us both fine. All my dcs miss the cut-off by just a few weeks, and I am very happy (esp. for ds #1)

- i didn't either - aug bday in a city with a sept cutoff. she's fine in 2nd grade but i was told you dont' really know if it was the right decision until jr. high. we'll see. . .

- I have a November girl who's in 1st now. I'm glad we didn't hold her back, but she's tiny and slightly less mature socially, but she's done fine. I was a November baby too, so I'm prepared to help her deal with issues when they arise.

  - NP here I was actually PUT AHEAD a agrade and I had NO problems in the later grades, totally fit in great. I did have some trouble in K-3 grade. Never had a problem going to college at 17. Always found this concept puzzling.

        well that's different than a child who is a few months younger than the youngest. To me, that's no big deal. Play the cards you are dealt and stick with the district cutoff.

        np, in nyc, the problem is the dec vs the 'summer" cut-off. we're looking to move ds into private at middle school and worked on that schedule. I don't want my 17 graduating from high school

    - if I lived in NYC, my ds would be in K this year. But thankfully, we live in NJ in an Oct 1 cut-off district. The extra time has helped him so much, and I don't perceive him being the oldest in the grade as a means to compete best against other kids, but rather, it's a better fit for his development.

      - BUT - my ds is v. tall for his age. taller than most of the kids in his brother's pre-k class (like he's 38 inches) if he has a tremendous spurt, perhaps, as he's going to tall for his regular year, if redshirted, he will be gigantic and that kinda wor s me.
