my house is a mess right now. roofers redoing my entire roof, furniture delivery here, cable here soon, painter here in a little bit to fix something. what a mess.

[ Reply | Options ]house isn't big, it's a bilevel, we are in NJ. guy is giving us a break b/c he knows my fil. also he took money off b/c we are paying in cash. worth the trip to the bank imo for saving a couple hundred $. they are going to be done today, they were here 7:30am though!

i know, wasn't bragging at all, we do everything as cheaply but as good as possible. had money saved for all of this and finally doing it, just didn't plan on having to do it all at one tiime on one day!
[ Reply | Options ]I asked about your roof above...we've been saving for years, also live cheaply and way below our means. We're about to embark on major stuff--new roof, 2 bathroom renovations, floor refinishing, etc... I didn't think you were bragging. We don't travel or eat out; I shop sales and yard sales. We've never spent anything on stuff like this during the 10 years we rented apts in NYC, so we've finally saved up and after 2 years in the house we're ready to make it "ours".
[ Reply | Options ]same here, we are having #2 and had to redo a room we never touched when we moved in 2yrs ago to make it a playroom and make the playroom into second bedroom upstairs. we had saved for all of this. we were also renting for years so saved some, but we hav e done better living in the house, don't eat out nearly as much (almost never actually except weekends) and daycare is cheaper as well
