I'm trying to figure out how people make it work when stuck by a serious illness. Colleagues dh had bone cancer, recurrent operations/hospital-acquired infections, horrible situation but she is prob going to lose her job due to frequent absences. How do people manage? What will happen when she loses her job (and insurance)? Should she have given her dh less time to preserve her job and recruited family/friends to help out? Feel so horrible for her.

it is, they are both wonderful people. just trying to sort out how often this happens, what employers obligations are, are they doomed, etc
[ Reply | Options ]the best option would be to hire a private nurse to stay with him at all times and for her to keep her job.

This was us, we lived off of credit cards as long as we could after I had to stop working and pay cobra. Then we lost benefits, then we lost our house. Now dh is ok, we're back to renting, and it just feels gross. Having all this debt, not owning, makes e feel "dirty" domehow, less than other people. Our health ins in this country really sucks.
