  • Seems to me anyone in D2 with a score under 95 shouldn't even bother. The choices are abysmal.

    • D3 is worse. At least D2 has great scoring schools that nobody wants to go to. D3's have terrible scores.

      • ITA, the chinatown schools are very good academically, way better than what D3 has.

          • "issues" in this discussion always means ther are poor kids or kids of color or kids whose families don't speak english.

              • you're jumping to conclusions. we've been told by those who know that it's difficult for white dc in a 90+ asian school because the culture is very different. they don't do playdates, accept birthday invitations, or otherwise socialize outside of scho this would concern me, but obviously it must be because i'm a racist.

              • good grief! it's not racist to want your kid to be in a diverse school (diverse, meaning, no one ethnic group makes up nearly the entire school). it's one of the reasons some people choose public over private - wanting their kids to be educated in a m e diverse setting (ethnically, socioeconomically, etc.)

                • But so few schools are really like that. Most of the ethnically diverse schools people like have to still be over 50-60% white for white families to be comfortable at them.

            • But they still have involved families that make sure kids study hard and behave at school, which are the most important things.

          • sure, but if academics and learning are your primary concern those will be addressed at those schools

            • i would rather dc attend a school that has diversity. no chinatown schools or lower lab, but ps11 and nest will be on our list. it's not race at the chinatown schools. it's a cultural issue. very little socializing with white dcs.

        • But that does not help with G&T applications, does it? D2 has tons of great gen eds too.

          • Oh, no. There's just 9, 163, 166. Most people I know on UWS happily opted for gen eds even if they scored into G&T - have never heard anything great about UWS G&Ts, other than Anderson and 9.

            • It really looks like apartheid at UWS G&T's, between the gifted classes and the gen eds they are located in - wouldn't want my kid to be educated in an environment that looks for all intents and purposes as if it is segregated.
