    • Start by eliminating at least one feeding. At 8 months she doesn't "need" to eat at night.

    • OP - I know she doesn't need it, that's why I am asking for ideas.

    • are you bf'ing? if so have dh go in to rock her back to sleep after first wakeup... once she realizes that all she gets is daddy, no boob, she might stop waking up.

      • op - yes, I BF and we are trying this, but she doesn't stop crying when DH is rocking her to sleep. she just goes on and on for a hour or more, until we give her milk (in a bottle, boob, doesn't matter how)

        • or: fwiw, my ds was still waking up to eat at least 1x a night until 11mo. one thing that helped was making sure he was getting plenty of food/boob during the day.

          • op - that's what I have been trying to do. one problem we have is that DD drinks very little at each feeding. 6oz tops, usually 4oz each time. she has 3 solid meals a day, bfast, lunch and dinner, around 6 PM, before she has a bath and has some boob before bed. Not sure how to make her drink more each time?

            • or below - my dd drank about the same at each feeding so she had 5 bottles during the day plus the solids. what are you giving for dinner? i found starchy things (mashed potatoes, pasta, rice) works the best to tide her over

    • i started not giving her milk at night - drop the 1am one first. just pick her up and get her pack to sleep. once she's over the 'needing to feed' it'll get easier.

      • op - for how long do you wait for her to get back to sleep? you just wait for how long as it takes?

        • i held / rocked her (yes i know some on this board will flame me) until she was asleep again, i would offer water and sometimes my dh would go b/c i was bfing and she smelled milk on me which made it harder. make sure she gets a lot of food / milk before sleeping. my 21mo dd sleeps really well now but she was still waking up until she was almost a year

          • op - thank you. we do the same, we don't want to CIO. DH has been holding/rocking her but she doesn't sleep until she gets some milk. she eats the equivalent of 2 jars of #2 baby food for dinner - we usually make something with potatoes, carrots, some meat and then mashed fruit for dessert. I will try to add some rice, thanks!
