    • I work for YAI and they offer services to families with special needs children. I'm sure if you called them, they would be able to connect you to a variety of serices

      • OP: no major downside. i am just a very private person. i am sure therapy would help but between work, my ds therapy and my other kids, i have no time...i know deep down it will be time well spent though.

    • Wow that's a switch. Usually the dw is the one more recertive to therapy. It is very helpful. I just stopped last year due to $$$ after going for 7 years. I really miss it. Very helpful imo

    • I see a therapist (& I'm the type of person who ever thought I would) and it's been a godsend. I talk about the big & small - looking for a school for ds, how his SEIT annoys me, my feelings of guilt, what the last birthday party was like, etc... you name it. I get it all out and he helps me sort things out and even strategize how to talk to the school, the SEIT, how I need to take care of myself, how the best thing I can do for ds is to enjoy him, etc. Plus, he's never met ds, but he "gets" him and sees him as a child beyond his special needs and therefore helps me to see ds that way.

    • I've always been nuts so I've seen a therapist for 15 years. But since dd's dx, that's all I talk about and it helps so much. dh and I don't go together but he has a shrink too.

    • I've been seeing a therapist for 3 years, and this year we finally got a diagnosis- we (dh and myself, as well as dcws on occasion,) have gone to see someone who specializes in aspergers

    • IF DC is in EI you as the parents can work with a social worker trained in these issues for free. I would also call the Ackerman Institue, the Jewish Board of Family and Children Services, and the JCC for referals to therapists who deal with these issues . Both YAI and JCC offer support groups for parents of children with special needs.
