  • WWYD: consultant earning about $140/year. Like the company where I am consulting and it is possible I could go FT. Another company offered me $105 but with bonus potential, cheaper benefits, etc., the difference is after tax of about $13,000/year. Wha I do not like about consulting is uncerrainty. What I do like is the $$$ - classic bird-in-the-hand situation. I am torn. Consulting assignment would probably at least las through end-of-year but who knows. I am the sole provider. Thank you for any advice.

      • OP: thought is the switch would be a permanent position vs. contract so extra security would be worth lower pay. DH says "what is permanent anymore"?

          • OP: would have to give two weeks notice and start second week of May. Problem is, consulting is so erratic, but the $1/month reduction in monthly take home is big.

    • one of the great things about consulting is that you can put alot more money of pre-tax into a SEP, deduct your health care premiums, etc. We were just dealing w/ this, but dh will make more on his own than working full-time for someone else. Plus, the flexibility can't be beat.
