  • 99 boy in brooklyn heights. I think my options are PS8 (not G&T) or NEST. Right? If I write nest and only nest on my list of preferences does that help me or hurt me?

    • You have no district G&Ts? If you absolutely wouldn't send your dc to either of the other citywide schools, go ahead and put only NEST.

      • OP: we have only a classroom here and there in really crappy schools. I dont know why they do that in brooklyn: put the G&T classrooms in the worst schools. I dont want to travel to clinton hill for K

        • They do that all over, not just Brooklyn. G&Ts are a great way to revitalize a struggling school. Brings the MC and UMC families in, which helps bring the overall level up. Are you happy with PS 8 in case dc doesn't get NEST?

          • OP: I thought there were some g&ts in some decent schools in manhattan. I know not a single person in brooklyn heights who are even considering the g&ts in the distric PS 8 looks okaaaaaaay, but everyone here worries about lack of middle school options.

            • Part of what made those schools decent is the presence of the G&T. Which is why there was talk about discontinuing 116s G&T and establishing a replacement program in another school. The program is seen by some as having outlived its purpose.

        • but the clinton hill PS 20 and also 282 in park slope is good. Kids can be bused. At nest, you will have to commute. Not really so much out of the way to consider the bklyn G&Ts. Of course there in an unspoken consideration here, no?

          • picking up from yesterday and no, if you are talking race or safety or something. PS8 and Nest are both pretty mixed (meaning I dont' think white kids are 50% or m more)

    • it doesn't matter. he will get in on his score alone whether you choose only nest or rank it at the top of the entire list.
