        • I fed my kids whenever they wanted--that's what made sense to me.

          • np - i think its all personal...he won't starve, its whether you want to go thru cio or if you don't mind getting up keep with it.

          • the thing is I don't know if he's really hungry. he seems very tired, but he'll always eat if you offer. so maybe I'm just training him to keep waking up at 3 or 4 a.m.? who knows

            • there's crying, and then there's crying. I just couldn't leave an inconsolable child crying. fwiw, they were relatively good sleepers, though.

              • we have gone through some awful nights of cio but dh has been doing the heavy lifting. now he's out of town and I can't remember if/when to check. I am SO tired. anyway, point well taken regarding degrees of crying

              • p.s. what do you consider a pretty good sleeper at the 6 mo stage? tia

                • or: I really don't recall the specifics. I felt like I was able to get a decent night's rest, so was getting a 4-6 hour stretch, w/maybe a wakeup and then a few more hours or something?

              • I also never did cio and my son sleeps thru the night and a great napper...i don't think its always the right answer.

                • op here and I must say the "sleep training" w/#2 is so much harder than w/#1. they're very different babies. this one just doesn't nap, and needs some cuddling and transitioning, no matter how tired, to fall asleep

                  • ditto - I'm having such a harder time getting my 6mo on a schedule - think it's because I'm at the mercy of my 2yo's schedule.

                    • np- i think each kids is different- my 5 mo is a great sleeper, on a schedule- my first was impossible and erratic despite all attempts to train

                • OR: I know. different kids are different, and parents have different needs as well. DH and I honestly aren't organized enough to enforce really strict rules.

          • interesting. they say the night feedings are the ones that suppress ovulation the most effectively. thanks for the info, was just curious. your baby must have been quite a daytime nurser!

    • OP and while I have a couple CIO moms here, please tell me, do you go check why they're crying (poopy diaper, wet diaper, etc.) during the night, then put them back and let them cry. tia, totally sleep deprived and dumb
