  • 32 wks pregnant and I feel guilty that I am not as "in love" or bonded to this baby as my husband. He is so excited and imagines all the things we will do with her. I just feel it is surreal and weird. I can't believe there is another person under my skin waiting to come out. I almost can't let myself get too attached.

      • but what does "attached" feel like? The whole first trimester I was so unattached in case something went wrong and I think I was never able to "re-attach"

        • I'm so confused! The baby isn't born yet! (np) What attachment are you talking about?

          • I don't know - shouldn't I feel a powerful love or protectivness or something for the baby I am carrying? I just feel....fat!

    • nothing to feel guilty about, everyone feels differently -- I didn't bond with dc #1 truly until she was 6 mos old

      • what did the first 6 months feel like though? Were you scared that it would never happen?

        • I loved her like crazy, but it just took time for me to feel that total bond -- I know I'm different than a lot of moms, and I worried when I was pg if I would ever bond but I knew after she was born that biology would take care of it for me

            • so what does a bond feel like once you experience it? How is it different then just loving her?

              • for me, anyway, it's like being in love x 1,000, I'd do anything for this tiny person, throw myself in front of a truck to protect her, go into her room 3 times a night sometimes just to watch her sleeping... not very articulate, but there you have it

      • op - I guess I thought I should feel something more. I don't know. I just feel like I'm getting bigger and bigger. Hard to imagine a baby is in there

    • Does your db move and kick a lot? Mine's wiggly, so I feel like he's always bringing a smile to my face, but maybe it would be harder if I didn't feel him.

      • yes - she is. I like when she does that but I"m almost afraid to let myself get too excited in case something happens.

    • Soon you'll love the db more than you ever thought it was possible to love anything ever. Don't worry too much.

    • Don't worry, I was the same. And didn't "love" my baby at first sight when he arrived, either. Took a few weeks, but now I ADORE him. Let it come naturally.
