Any moms out there who are going to choose their zoned public school if their dc doesn't get into a G&T program that is close by? I am zoned for PS 183 and probably going to have dc go there if we don't get into Lower Lab. Any advice from parents currently or previously in the same situation?

    - I don't know when we'll hear - I followed up with the parent coordinator before break but she had not heard back from the DOE and nothing is on the ps41 site yet

- Be glad you're zoned for a good public school! DD will go to ps6 if we don't get LL or A, and we'll be more than happy if that's how it works out.

- I was thinking it might actually be a relief! My ds has many friends from preschool who will be going to PS 183. He might be happier there in the longrun. After all, it's just elementary school- not high school!

  - My DC is in K at 183 is having a great year. I know parents w/DC in each of the K classes and they're all pleased w/the teachers. There are things I'd change, but in general, it's a great public school.

    - thank you! a lot of my friends and neighbors are equally pleased with PS 183. the thought of my little one being so far away from home make me a little nervous... PS 183 is just two blocks from us!

      - We love it, not a lot of pressure at all. Dd has had great teachers, very bright, nice dcs both years (dd is in 1st grade). 183 is a great school as well but we feel very lucky that dd is at 116 and in the G&T where she has thrived. Also there is a fantastic chess program at 116

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. We didn't apply to G&T last year, but went through the private song and dance and stayed on WLs all summer. The teachers are excellent, and it's a diverse parent community thanks to the hospital/Rockefeller families. I wish it were less crowded and still had a library, but at least there are good specials, a large play yard and a new gym. I would only take Anderson over 183, but I'm biased.
