Please help and no flames -- we are on third night of cio for near 4 mo who wakes several times/night to nurse and hasn't been in his own crib. Tonight he has 100.7 fever and has been crying since noon virtually nonstop. He has slept only when Ive had him out for walks. If I don't cio he probably wont sleep well, but cio seems wrong if he's not feeling well. I'm not sure what to do, as his sleep was improving, at least at night.

ok, I'm definitely not flaming b/c we did the interval version of CIO at 4mos (go in and give consolation every 5-10mins), but if they're sick i think they get a pass. Did you call the pediatrician? Crying nonstop - if unusual - with a low grade fever could be an ear infection or something
[ Reply | Options ]op: thank you for understanding. these posts have made me cry. db is sleeping here on my chest, but i also have 2 yo dd, who needs me, and i need to get db into a better sleep pattern. he was colicky and is now severely sleep-deprived. i finally start started check and console cio b/c dr advised it and not doing it seemed worse for all of us, esp him.

[ Reply | Options ]sorry your post was a troll magnet...I'd comfort tonight and resume cio tommorow night if db is back to normal. perhaps the rest of the posters are this over the top due to exhaustion!
[ Reply | Options ]OP: to clarify, I AM HOLDING MY BABY ON MY CHEST AND HE IS NOT ALONE. I ASKED WHAT TO DO IN THIS SITUATION.
[ Reply | Options ]you feed him at night for the next 2 months at least. He sleeps on you for as long as he needs it- it sucks, but it will pass .
[ Reply | Options ]OP: i finally did check & console cio, not b/c holding him "sucks" -- i love holding him, but b/c he is sleeping less & less, and he is overtired. his naps have grown increasingly worse over the past month. i still nurse him twice at night, but he was nursing every hour, and i wasnt sleeping. i have a two yo, so i cant nap during the day. he also doesnt take a paci or bottle, so he is always on me, which is hard for dd to take everyday.
[ Reply | Options ]NP: I don't believe in cio at any age so I used a book called No Cry Sleep Solution. For 3 dcs. It worked well for all despite them having very different temperaments. One was an every 60-90 minute waker too. It took 10 days with him, but he never had to to cry. It's really really worth a look. It sounds like you are both in various kinds of pain. Why not give it a try?

np: i posted above, wondering if he has an ear infection. when they lay down pressure builds up on the ear drum, and when they are vertical, it is less so.
[ Reply | Options ]np- I have a 4.5 month old who is sick. It sucks, but you have to suspend all sleep training. When he is over his illness I will go back to some modified training. For now, I will just get sleep however and whenever I can. He is my third so it is not easy. FWIW...for sleep training..I found that putting him down for the night sleepy and then letting him cry then really helped minimize the rest of the night wakings. And it is easier on you too because you know at that point he is fed, warm, well and sleepy. Just for the future. G/L.

UrbanBaby Asks...
When I ride in a taxi cab with my DC I:
- Use a carseat
- Buckle him/her in his/her own seat
- Hold him/her on my lap
- I'd never ride in a taxi with my DC, it's much too dangerous!
