But I am also troubled by Obama staying in that church for 20 yrs. Not a make or break deal but he would be better off just saying he went there bec of Chicago politics or some other reality. I don't like him calling it a black thing. It's not a black ng.
[ Reply | Options ]I am troubled by your inability to acknowledge the nuances within the human condition. So, here is a solution for your: don't vote for Wright as President; don't attend that church and don't donate to their community programs.

i don't know any thinking person who goes to a religious service regularly and agress with 100% of what is said
[ Reply | Options ]of course not, but most people I know who go to church have changed churches if they have major differences.

Well, I go to church, a black church, and I know there are many wonderful black churches where pastors don't say stuff like that. I just don't appreciate how Obama "explained" Rev Wright as a black thing.
[ Reply | Options ]He didn't, as a matter of fact. He said that the type of sermon is found in many black churches; politically charged sermons. That Wright's anger is the America of the past. Wright is as much a "black thing" as Falwell and Graham are a white thing.
[ Reply | Options ]I just don't know why he didn't go to another black church where the pastor is not over the top. I think it was bec of Chicago politics which I understand but it put a bad taste in my mouth to explain as a black thing. I also don't think Jerry Falweall a white thing. It's just a crazy thing. I think it hurts racial unity to view everything in racial lenses. I thought it was opposite of hwat he tried to accomplish in his campaign.

A few thoughts- how is his stuff worse than, say, Jerry Falwell? And why is it a national issue?
[ Reply | Options ]-
okay. so why is this a national issue? People have been listening to flawed spiritual advisors for centuries.
[ Reply | Options ]I think he went there bec of chicago politics. He could have just been more honest in explaining it. Not make a race thing out of it. I don't like how he equated his grandma - that was a low blow.

A low blow to whom? It sounds like you have made a decision about something that isn't supported by the truth.
[ Reply | Options ]To drag in your grandma who is still living and expose her at her expense? It's just below the belt.

"you...." poster- I would argue that most people who are still hung up on this Rev Wright issue would have found SOMETHING to hang their fears on without ever actually saying/confronting their prejudice. If it had not been this it would have been the flag pin or the fact that he... whatever.
[ Reply | Options ]np: Did you see Stewart on this? "So, the Wright thing, the flag pin, the bitter comment... let me just get to the real question and ask you, Senator Obama "are you going to enslave the white man when you get to be President?"
[ Reply | Options ]OP: flag pin is bogus. Ayers story is bogus. But I don't appreciate how Obama camp is subtly saying REv Wright thing is about latent racism. It might be true for some but there are others like me who have a hard time not bec of racism.
[ Reply | Options ]I'm not saying nobody can get fixated on this stupid issue and have that outweigh everything else without racism... but the facts and the situation don't support the drama about this. A person with all of Obama's potential lives in Chicago and goes to inner city church. There his minister is... surprise, surprise... an fiery speaking black man who on occasion lashes out at the society which among many things in his lifetime supported the government setting dogs on peaceful marchers. (This was happening while the minister was oversees fighting for this country.) All the while, nobody says dick about McCain going after Robertson after the horrible stuff he said on national TV the day after 9-11. Then Obama speaks directly to the issue and the nay sayers make it about his outing his grandmother...?!!! And you are surprised some people doubt the motivation behind the doubters.
