Two nanny questions: if nanny routinely arrives 10-15 minutes early in the AM, do you pay extra (she is not asked to)? If so, how much? Also, at what time do you pay for cab home?

Can I ask where your nanny lives? Ours lives in Flatbush and says she needs a cab home at 7 because it takes her 1.5 hours to get home (UWS) and it's not safe there at 8:30. Thoughts?

That's what I was wondering, but since I don't do the commute, it;s hard for me to say.
[ Reply | Options ]live on the uws. our first nanny lived in brooklyn near kings county hospital. it took her under an hour to make the commute. but that area is dangerous after dark.
[ Reply | Options ]so in that instance, what would you do? what time would you send her home in a cab?
[ Reply | Options ]i would pay for a cab whenever she stayed later than her usual time. i.e. if she usually left at 6, i'd pay for a cab if she stayed until 6:30 or later. and i'd pay for a cab and send her home early on halloween or other days when the neighborhood is really bad. but otherwise, she'd take the train/bus.

are you kidding? From the UWS to Flatbush? Of course its an hour and a half - at least that I'd say.

I would question whether she is just pocketing the $ and taking public transport at that hour. I know friends that send nanny home in car service so they can avoid the cash issue.

Don't pay extra but I would pay cab fare after dark, especially if she lives in a shady neighborhood.
