  • just went to first ob appt and when i asked for list of foods i can/can't eat - they said i can eat anything. just no alcohol, cigarettes or drugs. i was shocked... normal?

    • its best not to ask your ob's office these types of details that you can find online or in a book. Just look it up - you can have deli meats (its just best to have roasted instead of smoked), soft cheeses are ok as long as pasteurized (most are) and I idn't eat sushi (but some people say you can). there are also certain fishes you should stay away from

    • no. I believe even the FDA cautions pregnant women against eating fish with high levels of mercury. Most OBs will at least give you a list of things that some people think might be problematic (like unpasteurized cheeses, etc.)

    • I think its normal and if you dont you need to find a new OB. Either follow drs orders or find a new one.

      • I don't think "normal" is the right word here. OPs OB is lax. That's all. She should inform herself if her OB isn't going to do it.
