i totally understand why someone would bring nanny. signed, someone who hasn't but would totally consider it
[ Reply | Options ]but doesnt family time alone count for something? I mean those who bring nannies, obviously have them in their daily lives
[ Reply | Options ]np - i have a nanny in every day life. how much alone time do you think that gives DH and I?
[ Reply | Options ]I dont know, but I would think that with a good nanny, you and dh could use her once a month for a night out

you could, that would be fine, but maybe do that on a weekend without the kids and save family vacations for just the family

Hrm. A vacation that includes time with my kids AND time alone to rest? I can't imagine why anyone would like that.

Every so often, I like to read a book. Or sleep in. Or go to a movie that is rated R.

13--you have an in-house nanny/baby sitter. Those of us with infants to age 6 spend vacation changing diapers, stressing about food/formula/bottles, coordinating nap times, and being trapped in the room at 8;00 when kids go to be b/c they are horrible the next ay if not enough sleep.

yes, well you must love your kids more than all the other moms. I liking having help on vacation, 3 ds running around near beach and pool leaves no time to relax as I spend each minute lifeguarding, refereeing, etc. Having 2 hours to sit, read a book or g out to each with dh and the extra pair of hands makes the vacation actually relaxing for us.

With really young dcs, especially 2-3, I can really understand how a family vacation might be hard to orchestrate without some help. If the baby needs to nap, then 1 parent gets stuck in the hotel room. If dcs go to bed at 8pm, then parents are stuck in the hotel room unless they get a sitter which makes a lot of people uncomfortable in a strange place. Also, if dcs don't swim yet, it's hard to go to the pool w 3 kids and only 2 parents.
[ Reply | Options ]We hired a nanny for a week on our last vacation (someone through the resort, didn't bring our own). We had a 18 m/o and a 4 yr old. 4 yr old was totally easy and fun to hang with. 18 month old spent the entire time wandering around the beach, walkin up and down concrete steps he couldn't actually do w/o help, wandering onto other people's terraces or in their rooms - our older ds did this at that age too - we took him on vacation at that age and it was exhausting. We hung with dc in the am's - then toddler took nap, nanny arrived and she hung out with us and chased toddler around while dh and I built sand castles or swam with 4 yr old - or took him on an excursion, or she took both dc to playground and dh and I did stuff alone. She babysat through dinner, sometimes coming with us to dinner and took dc out when they got unruly, or sometimes fed them in the room while we had an adult night out. Best vacation ever!

When I ride in a taxi cab with my DC I:
- Use a carseat
- Buckle him/her in his/her own seat
- Hold him/her on my lap
- I'd never ride in a taxi with my DC, it's much too dangerous!
