  • TT schools are tt because they have tt students and accelerated curriculum (after 3rd grade), not tt teachers. It's all about the peer group they accept and keep

      • I have had DCs at different schools (incl. tt). I have noticed a big difference in the peer group (and parent group)...really no difference across teachers. Actually, the best teachers we had were from our local public

    • As a teacher, I like to believe we improve our schools. That said, I was a great teacher when I was teaching in a public school and when I was teaching in public. There are good and mediocre teachers in both places.

      • OP: It seems you agree with my post that basically said that the quality of teachers across schools is similar, NOT that teachers do not matter

    • Do they really have accelerated curriculum? Because it seems that by HS, all top students - public or private, NYC or suburban - are doing the same curriculum.

      • OP: Talking about public HS, surely you do not claim that HS DCs in Stuyvesant do the same math as HS DCs in zoned HS??

        • No, I am claiming that Stuy and Dalton and Scarsdale High - the top schools - all have the same curriculum. You're right - I wrote students but I meant top students at top schools.
