  • advice needed: my mom came over and took my elderly dog out of the bedroom against my requests (i was there trying to stop her). the dog got excited and went into seizures. i had to watch my dog die over the next 3 dys. my mom said she'd split the vet bi vet bill 50/50 but i think she should pay the whole thing b/c my dog would not have needed the care if she had listened to me and i already suffered enough while my dog died and loosing her. it bothers me b/c didn't have the $ for extra expensive vet bills with a new baby and my dog may have never needed this type of vet emergency care.

    • I'm sorry for your loss. I don't think your mom should have to pay anything and is being generous by offering to pay half. sorry.

      • she knew of my dog's condition though and that this would/could happen and that was why the dog was in the other room when people visited

    • no offense, but it sounds like your poor dog was going to go at any minute anyway and probably you should have just put the poor thing down. sorry for the loss, but it's not your mom's fault.

      • see above though. she knew my dog's condition. that she would see people and get overly excited and go into seizures then.

        • Ok, time for a reality check. Are you saying your mother intentionally killed your dog?

        • why was your mom there? was it to help you with the new baby? isn't she helping you? this is purely about money.

    • I am SO very sorry. What an awful thing to have to see especially now with a newborn. Your Mom sounds pretty obstinate and this probably isn't the first time she's insisted on doing things her way or you wouldn't be so quick to place 100% of the blame on her. I think, however, that if you talked to your vet, he/she would probably say that any event could have caused the seizures and this just happened to be the event that came immediately before them? How would your mom react to you asking her for the full amount? She probably feels some responsibility or she wouldn't have offered to pay half.

      • op: my dog would have lived a lot longer which is not the point to me as much as the fact that my mom did this with knowledge and should pay the full bill b/c i keep a careful budget

        • you really have no idea how long your dog would have lived; if it' went into seizures over such a small thing, it was probably about to happen anyway.

    • I think your dog was very sick and pretty close to death anyway. it's sad, but your mom's money won't help

    • Your dog was elderly and leaving the bedroom would cause it to die. I know youre upset, but sounds like mom's offer is enough.

    • you have a new baby; if this dog went into seizures over being taken out of the bedroom, it would have gone into seizures over some other thing any day now. this has NOTHING to do with your mom!

    • I don't understand the "trying to stop her bit." My mom can be a PITA but if I stood in front of the door, grabbed her arm and said in my sternest voice "do not get the dog" you can bet she would back off. You need to grow a pair hon. And tell you you expect her to pay for the whole thing.

      • I completely disagree. this dog sounds as if he was about to go anyway, and the mom was there to help her!
