are there any good zoned public elementary schools in the west 90's? my realtor wants us to look there. i don't have the luxury of moving there and hoping i can work something out b/c my DD starts K in the fall. i'm not in NYC so i can't really tour a don't know any moms to ask so i need to do my research online. i feel comfortable with 87 and 199 from what i've read online, but i don't know what the schools are in teh 90's and my friends that live up there don't know anyone with kids in the public schools. TIA

I'd rent first if I were you, buying a place from faraway does not sound like a good idea. You should get to know the neighborhood a little.
[ Reply | Options ]i actually lived in nyc for 8 years so i know the area. i'd consider renting but wouldn't i also have to rent a place before i could apply for the G&T to get an address in the city? and again, if we didn't get in we'd be stuck in the city w/no school a year until we could break our lease?

Go to www.insideschools.org and read the reviews of P.S.75, P.S.84, P.S.166 and P.S.163 and see what you think.
[ Reply | Options ]West 90s aren't zoned for either 199 or 87. FWIW, I have a kid in 87 and we're not thrilled with it -- really overcrowded.
[ Reply | Options ]The public schools in the West 90's are P.S. 75, 84, 166 and 163; 166 & 163 have G&T programs. I have heard of middle-class, educated parents sending their kids to 75 and to 166 G&T, but have not heard of them sending kids to 84, or 166 general ed or 163 general ed.
[ Reply | Options ]I know someone will scream SPAM at me but if you move there and can afford about 18K, there's a great little private elementary on CPW and 95th that's been there for like 200 years!
