  • Non jew: do you have a seder meal at passover? I'm v. confused about the calendar, I think.

      • ok - but as a catholic, i always learned that the "Last Supper" was Passover and we celebrated Holy Thursday (which would be the night of the last supper) weeks ago. I thought the Catholic and Jewish calendars were more in sync.

        • If I understand correctly (DH is a lapse Cath.) a seder and "the" seder are different.

          • even so - i always thought we celebrated easter based on passover but passover should come before easter. i'm clearly confused (and taught my sunday school class all wrong.)

            • you are right. but the calendars don't match up anymore b/c the jews have one calendar and the christians use the cycles of the moon.

        • historically, this is correct. in modern days, though, the catholics and jews use different calendars to determine the day of the seder. christians actually use the cycles of the moon to determine lent.

    • you have a seder, the meal is part of the seder, it's a whole process, and the reason it's far from easter is because this is a leap year and there are two adars (i think!)

      • yes! 2 adars! I know what this means!!! dh had to say kaddish twice this year because the rabbi can't decide what day should be the date of his father's death because of the 2 adars

    • The "seder" refers to the meal you have the first 2 nights of Passover. Actually means "order" as there is a perscribed order to the rituals you do before the actual meal.
