  • My DS hasn't pooped in over a week - started on Miralax two days ago, still nothing but a little staining. Should I get suppositories now? Will it hurt him?

    • i don' think that miralax acts as a quick fix. try the suppositories. The staining can be troublesome if it indicates that he is impacted. This happened twice to my dd when she started withholding and she had to go on colonscopy prep meds to go. It w awful. She has been on daily miralax for 18 months now.

      • what generally causes a kid to withhold? Any ideas? Is it resistance to using the potty?

        • Yes, he has major potty issues plus he is constipated. He is on the spectrum so toileting has been very tough

        • for my dd, she was a little constipated and it hurt to go so she started holding it in. Also, it started around the same time I announced my pregnancy, so it may be an attention getting behavior

          • he has had it rough the last few times - he probably does hold it - he holds his pee all day too - only goes in pull up at night.

            • wow. if you are in NYC and it becomes a longterm problem, check out NYU's childstudy practice. their preschool group covers this.

                • NYU's practice specifically covers this. once you get this big load out of him you need to sit him on the toilet EVERY NIGHT right after dinner. start the star/reward chart. you got to get him to the point where he is not afraid to poop. the poop has to be soft and pass quickly and easily. I know it is sometimes controversial (some doctors are pro, some ar con) but I use dot pu tmineral oil in his juice before bed. lubricates. and then I would load him up on fiber to help the poop retain water and not get dry andhard. and the miralx. How much did you give?

    • you need suppositories. Talk to ped. We had to use half a doculax...things could be "stuck" so you need to get the big hard poop out first before the soft can follow (softened by Miralax). sorry, tmi but we had a child on miralax for year. I feel like I ave a phd in poopology
