  • I posted earlier about visiting pathologically hoarding mom. I guess what I need help with is not getting into fights w/ her, registering my disgust/disapproval. I can't take a deep breath because the air in her house smells horrible. It's too late for her to change. She's over 80 yrs old, doesn't think it's an illness and has been to a therapist her whole life but never dealt with this. Would love to hear more from people who have hoarding parents...

    • You don't sound like you believe it's an illness. Try to believe that - it is!! She isn't making a choice to be this way.

    • I'm sorry. That's hard. My dad is a bit of a hoarder, but it hasn't' reached that level. It sounds like you have a good sense of the situation.

    • grandma was a hoarder. we understood that its a mental illness and she couldnt help it. As soon as she was hospitalized for st, family went into the house and cleaned it out. we told her it was dr's orders
