How soon can you take a newborn out to places, such as cafes, restaurants? (I'm assuming we can take him for a stroll on a nice day quite early on). Thanks.

          • No, but I meant more for the crowded places. I wouldn't take him to Macy's, but a restaurant, maybe.

            • Follow your instincts. Think about it, is it really that much of a sacrifice for 2 months of your entire life to make some adjustments to where you go.

                  • bfing gives newborn extra protection but it does not completely prevent them from getting sick.

                      • Yes, but the newborn is still more likely to get sick compared to an older baby/child or adult

                • All it takes is a cold. That is easy for us to deal with but not for a newborn. I am not telling never to leave the house but be selective.

                  • Then vaccines will make absolutely no difference, and 2 months is completely arbitrary.

                    • They recommend 2 months b/c that is when they start making their own antibodies. There is an actual reason behind it. Why is it so difficult to be picky about your destinations for 2 months. Will the world stop spinning if you don't get to crowded ven es. Take some perspective.

    • Use your judgement and don't take to places that are too crowded. My newborn ended up with horrible stomach thing after our first big excursion during the winter. Not fun. Lots of sleepless nights and loads of diaper blowouts.

    • I would avoid closed spaces for a few weeks. It is getting to the end of flu season so I would wait a couple more weeks. If the weather warm up I would prefer an outdoor cafe. my dc has the flu as an infant and it was terrifying. Make sure everyone wa washes hands etc. I think 4 weeks is a good rule of thumb.

    • Newborn is the best time to take out! It gets harder to get the kids out as they get older. A week at home should be fine.
