[ - ] Those of you who keep a car in a garage in NYC - do you tip every time you get the car? Monthly? Yearly? We recently started parking in a small garage that seems to have only 2 people working in it, but tipping each time seems extreme. 1 Reply [ Reply | Watch | More ]

We tip each time. Dh gives them $5 in and out. I think that's excessive--especially given the scratches and dings on our car. Once they manages to cause 4k in damage (thankfully I was running late and dh got out and started pacing by the car and back to the garage we went). I do $2 or $3 when on my own. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] I believe if de Blasio and Farina want a quick fix of public education, they should open a large "choice" school (or two or three) in the areas where public schools are failing. There won't be a lottery -- the school will accept any child and a 2nd school will open if more than 176 students register (22 x 8 classes) for K. The only catch is this: 1. any student who doesn't behave and takes up too much of the teacher's time would not be able to remain in the school. 2.) parents must read to their kids and see that their homework is completed. I think those schools would be very successful and provide a nice safe learning environment for any student who wants it. 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

bs Kipp makes families sign a contract to do the homework and show up for the longer school year and they follow through. Look at all the parents who have mobilized for recent protests. OP: That is my point! There could be large schools just like this with class size limited to 22 students who are there to learn. It seems like a no-brainer and those schools would be guaranteed to be safe since discipline problems would not stay. And any parent who wanted could choose that school -- no more lotteries. NP: This is not fishy in this least. If you do an invite-the-whole-class party, you are including kids you barely know and parents you don't know AT ALL. And you may not have contact info either in this case; at my DCs' school, only an email list is distributed unless you're a class parent. So the good news is that you can't screw it up. It's designed to be un-screwupable. You really do just jam the thing into the kids thigh. With that said, you shouldn't be handing people epi-pens without any advice, because what CAN screw someone up real good is giving them an epi pen dose when they don't need it. [ Reply | More ]

Still would work. The reason they tell you to use the thigh is because it's the biggest muscle and hard to miss. They tell you to leave it there for 10 seconds to be sure it works, but really it only takes about 2 seconds for the drug to be dispensed. [ Reply | More ]

Very odd that the parent didn't speak to you, but it isn't a stress. Ask the DC what she is allergic to (chances are it is nuts), make sure she doesn't have any and if the worst should happen (you will know about it!), there will be a first aider at the venue who can administer the Epi Pen. If not, it is really easy - pull off the blue cap, jam the pen into her outer thigh (through clothing is fine, it has enough strength to get through jeans) it will 'click' and then and hold it firm for 10 seconds.
