She called his ex-wife and the children "baggage" and a "third person" in the marriage and said that "fighting for the family unit" was a fight worth fighting for. Her name is Rebekah Gordon, and, according to her LinkedIn profile, she went to Cornell undergrad and the Columbia School of Journalism. 61 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Congratulations. Where does your body tend to "settle?" you know, if you aren't making a serious effort, but also aren't bingeing and are keeping up normal activity? If being a 4 takes some maintenance (I am in your exact shoes by the way, same sizes and everything), KEEP your 6's. You will likely at some point need them. We didn't have the "exclusivity" talk so I think it's ok to date other a (though I slept with one of the men, but just once). I feel like I need to decide. Do I go with the one who's more like me (excessive to do lists, preppy, same career, etc) or go with the other one, who is more my opposite (whereas he's more of a downtown person, I'm more uptown). Guy #2 though has a kid, just like me so he understands what it's like to be a single parent. He really gets it. Because the U.S. can't come out and say the truth: 1. That most of these governments are basket cases, and the one you should support today changes as the wind blows. 2. You could remove a bloody dictator to see if that will usher in democracy and free elections. But most likely, it will just provide a vacuum for the fundamentalists to fill. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] What is a reasonable first year budget for baby's first year in NYC? We are UMC couple. I've used all the online calculators- but they are not NYC specific. We got all major items as gifts (stroller, bassinet etc), planning to BF, no moving or renovations. I'm estimating 40K with a nanny (9 mo., FT), does that sound right? 15 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

So you are wondering what the diapers, wipes, clothing plus nanny will cost? [ Reply | More ]

OP: Yes, and other stuff I may not be thinking about, interested in hearing from parents of little ones about what the first year costs were like. TIA [ Reply | More ]

Are you planning to just buy diapers and such wherever, or will you look for sales? Shop bulk? Also, are you planning to make your own food, or buy baby food when they start solids? Do you have enough clothes for the year, or will you need to buy as they grow? If breastfeeding doesn't work out, I'd also budget for formula? I think it's kind of hard to give a specific number. Depends on if you are bargain hunter, or if you shop at Duane Reade and buy the most expensive stuff not on sale. [ Reply | More ]

Bargain hunter. Will make most food (and have been gifted a steamer/blender). I have a good amount of clothes, though I'm sure I'll buy more and places like Carter's/Target. I don't believe that people who are not potty trained need fancy clothes. [ Reply | More ]

Babies are as expensive as you make them. If you breastfeed, buy bulk diapers on sale (or go cloth), and buy all furniture & clothes used (or better still, get them free as hand-me-downs), you will spend almost nothing. [ Reply | More ]

yes but this cost only happens when you have a baby and you have to budget for that if you work. [ Reply | More ]

in NYC your baby expenses are the nanny + extra bedroom if you choose to move. the rest is peanuts in comparison. [ Reply | More ]

DH and I do work, though hours are reasonable. I've been estimating $17-18/hr. for the nanny costs, plus some benefits/taxes. Am I way off? [ Reply | More ]

typical ft nanny works a 50 hour work week earning roughly $700/wk for 1 db + 2 weeks of vacation, monthly metro card and holiday bonus is 1 to 2 weeks of pay. 700 * 54 = 38K and this doesn't include date night or an occasional weekend babysitter. Is this what you where thinking? $700/week is less than $17/hr at your rate you will spend closer to 50K on the nanny [ Reply | More ]

diapers and formula, then babyfood are the biggest ongoing expenses. you can nurse to spend less on formula and make your own baby food. don't know anyone who had added it all up.. clothing costs depends on how often you do wash, and if yo shop at old navy or buy designere stuff. need fewer items if do was twice a week, then if do once every 2 weeks. Vanity sizing is really getting out of control. I am overweight and wear a size 18/20 pants and XXL shirts. Went to Old Navy a few weeks ago with a friend and tried on a dress that was only XL and it was big on me..Their size 14 jeans fit me. Ridiculous.. [ Reply | More ]
