Yes, there were 2 kids who stood out as especially bright and curious. Not necessarily like profoundly gifted, but I remember them as being the "smart" ones who were the teachers pet. They are at Ivy League schools now. I know this seems very CSB but I just find it fascinating. I know all their parents and they all come from pretty much the same socioeconomic, educational, and cultural background. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Does ebf baby have more bonding with the mom? I am a exclusive pumper. My baby is fine without me. She can be with her dad all day long without missing me. I met another mom yesterday who is bf directly. Her baby can not stay without her.., her baby wants to be with mom all the time. I was wondering why my baby does not want to be with me all the time. 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Don't be so hard on yourself, no matter the scenario we tend to be hard on ourselves in first stages of motherhood. Baby wants to be with other mom 100% of time b/c of primal need--if mom isn't physically there no food. BTW, I consider exclusive pumping, EBF too. [ Reply | More ]

I mostly FF my child (I posted below.) Bonding is not the same thing as a clingy baby. My child and I have a great bond and I never felt that not breastfeeding interfered with that whatsoever. All babies are different, I wouldn't get too hung up on pumping and your relationship with your child. [ Reply | More ]

I exclusively pumped for a while, and felt like I was always either pumping, feeding my DD, or washing my equipment. Once I had to switch to formula, I got to spend a lot more time enjoying her and we have a great bond. That said, I wouldn't best yourself up over this - I'm sure your baby knows you are their mother and that has to count for something. [ Reply | More ]

I have run my whole adult life. I think about this periodically. If I don't run, I get cranky and depressed. If I do run, I don't. So, am I a depressed person who is "self medicating" or am I a human whose body was made to exert itself who does not have an outlet for that in my day to day desk job life. If I deprived myself of water and I was thirsty would i be sick? [ Reply | More ]

hmmm, very good point, I like the way you're making that comparison. i am very similar, ran in HS, college, and still run now. if I don't run, I become the same way and my husband tells me to go run. I sort of wonder if I created this monster in myself though, by conditioning myself and running high miles for so long (5+ miles regularly in HS, different mileage in college). sigh. [ Reply | More ]

I did a lot of mothering to my younger siblings, but as it became evident I wasn't the best influence in my family's eyes, I was pushed out of that role. I didn't really have hobbies as a child, but I did spend a lot of time at the public library when I could sneak some time away. Mostly we played amongst ourselves. Girls are definitely prodded into a very defined role. It is one of the reasons I left. [ Reply | More ]

Even as a small child I was never satisfied with the community. It never made sense to me, and as I read and explored the different facets of the world idealized there was more to life than isolation. I wasn't content, I wanted to make my own life. As I grew older I started to realize how limited I was, as a woman, and I explored the great feminist (although I didn't recognize it as such) questions. Why can't I do this? Why do I have to do that? I think, naturally, I was always a rebel and eventually that took hold. [ Reply | More ]

It's not only common, but there is evidence it leads to a general increase in "robustness" and athletic ability. For example, the soccer player Lionel Messi's projected adult height was 5'1" or 5'2," but his parents put him on growth hormone therapy as a preteen, and now he's 5'8" and is worth a quarter of a billion dollars. I think the matter is debated, but there may be an effect where if you have an existing cancer, the growth hormone would accelerate its growth, so cancer screening is important before beginning an HGH regimen. [ Reply | More ]

Actually it's San Marino (32,743), Palau (20,901), Tuvalu (11,323), Nauru (10,084) and the Vatican (839). Andorra (76,098), Liechtenstein (37,132), Luxembourg (549,700) and Malta (416,055) are all bigger. [ Reply | More ]

I got one right (San Marino) and I was close with Liechtenstein. I was not thinking South Pacific at all. Most small countries are overseas dependent territories of major countries, so I discounted too many islands. [ Reply | More ]

I really admire you. I did this for five weeks until I got mastitis in both breasts and it killed my supply. My DD never tolerated breast milk well (mild allergy) and is happier on formula, but I still cried when I returned the pump to the hospital because I felt like a failure. I remember how lonely it could be - I hope your DH appreciates what you're doing for your DC. [ Reply | More ]

My beautiful daughter is almost 5, was 95% chart, just like yours. Primarily bottle fed as BFing didn't work for us at all. She is 100% bilingual, is reading on her own, writes in 2 languages, is doing complex addition and subtraction with no problem, learning fractions, knows her primary and secondary colors and can mix them on her own, produces copious amounts of adorable artwork of all kinds that people swoon over. She is extremely kind and gentle with other children, very funny, plays fair, is far more mature than most other children her age. Did I mention she is so beautiful that people tell me she should model, often? She is extremely healthy, rarely ill, has never had diarrhea and loved her bottle until around a year when she was done with it. And all that's just for starters, honey. My amazing gyno AND my genius husband were both FF. In other words... get over yourself, sweetheart. [ Reply | More ]

I shop a lot and I've noticed more 25% off sales throughout the fall (as opposed to 20%). Not sure what this means for Black Friday/Cyber Monday - might mean bigger discounts or might mean fewer overall. That being said, I just ordered boots b/c I'm afraid that they'll be sold out and I really want them. [ Reply | More ]
