My colleague was the OW who broke up her DH's first marriage and she *loves* it that she can provide more financial support than her DH's ex wife. She often brags about how great it is that step-DDs are covered by her benefits and how she and DH are paying to put the kids through college. [ Reply | More ]

If you're traveling with kids and getting the car from an airport, I'd stick with the bigger ones just because they have more vehicles and they're more likely to be right at the airport (vs a shuttle bus ride away) but all depends where you're going [ Reply | More ]

I just saw it thanks to the MP post and I started to tear up watching it and then reading how the teacher is back on the job as a model teacher one week after suspension. I have heard from educator friends that one of the ways they are able to produce such strong results is that they force kids who are struggling out. There is also A LOT of teacher turnover. They also employ questionable discipline tactics including crazy high suspension rates (even for really young kids). They are definitely quite controversial. Look around online at different articles that support and criticize them and make up your own mind. FWIW, I would never send my kids there. [ Reply | More ]

Kids can be treated poorly in NYC public schools- but usually because of poor behavior. This little girl in the video was being humiliated and yelled at because she did not understand the math question-- that is what is so horrifiying here. If the teacher had been yelling at a kid who had hit someone, etc, I think we would all be more understanding. Can you understand that? [ Reply | More ]

I'm an SA mom. I am not defending this video. Teachers are at times stern, but not humiliating children in my SA. And it never should be. Peanut is the most severe, and most likely to result in anaphylaxis, but the allergy reaction depends on the levels in the child's blood. It also depends on the amount of exposure, how processed the food is, etc. My son's allergist told me that reactions can also worsen with multiple exposures. You have to take each one on a case by case basis. [ Reply | More ]

OP: My 4 yo has a tree nut allergy, but his reaction was weird. He got a rash around his mouth with slightly swollen lips and told me his throat "hurt". It seemed like it was borderline anaphylaxis, but it went away on its own completely in about 45 min. [ Reply | More ]

Yes reactions can be life threatening. You child could have 1, 2 or 20 or more minor reactions (rash, itchy etc) over time but it just takes one deadly reaction for your child to die. There is no way to predict which time may be anaphylaxis reaction. Always carry benadryl and an epipen for emergency. http://nonutsmomsgroup.weebly.com/blog/remembering-those-we-have-lost-to-food-allergies [ Reply | More ]

No, I believe toner is something used for coloring. I don't have coarse hair, it's fine but kind of frizzy and thick. I blow it out first and then flat iron, so I use a heat protectant for the blowing out process and then a tiny bit of coconut oil while flat ironing it. I do mean tiny. If you use too much, it's greasy. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Now that I have seen the video of the Success Academy "model" teacher, I actually believe Eva Moskowitz when she defends the fact that she might suspend over 20% of the 6 year olds in her schools for being "violent". If you keep punishing a child for not knowing the right answer (instead of trying different approaches to teach them) and shame them by ripping up their paper and telling them they have "confused EVERYBODY", most children will eventually act out -- and sometimes just hurt themselves. 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] I know it's minor but I just need to get it out of my system. I always go out of my way to make DH birthday special. As part of his gift this year I wanted to get him a pair of nice shoes that he had admired in the past. Life was insanely busy and I didnt get a chance to order them online in time to arrive for his birthday so I managed to squeeze in time I didnt have to go to their store the day before his birthday to buy them so he would have them on his actual birthday. He seemed happy, but over 2 weeks have passed now and he still hasnt even tried them on. I mentioned it casually a few times and he had various excuses like he had different socks on and didnt want to change them at that time, he would do it the next day. I havent mentioned it in a week but added "try on new shoes" to our weekly to do list and still nothing. He only has 30 days to exchange if they arent the right size or a good fit and that deadline is approaching. I guess he doesn't care as much as I thought he would. I'm not going to remind him again and if he misses the deadline he's just stuck with an expensive pair of shoes that may not fit. I'm kicking myself for killing myself to make sure he had them to open on his actual birthday. I should have just ordered them online, let them arrive late and called it a day. 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]
