[ - ] More biased terminology. Instead of illegal immigrants, undocumented immigrants. Now the IRS is calling the use of someone else's SS number "Borrowed". "The IRS refers to these mismatches as SSN "borrowing," on the theory that many workers merely borrow an SSN belonging to a relative or friend. They are also termed employment-related identity theft, illustrating concern among tax observers that many or most of these mismatched SSNs are actually stolen." 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] Cat or dog? Dd (6) really wants a pet. She has been begging for a dog specifically. I'm a single working mom with a very busy career and travel for work. We are home for 2 hours in the AM and 2-3 hours at night before bed. I'm wondering if maybe we would do better with a cat than a dog... or is it possible to have a dog on our schedule? We're just home so little and I'm worried about training etc.. Seems as though cats kind of take care of themselves.. anyone have experience in either with a busy schedule? 25 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

We've been cat people all our adult lives. True, you don't need to take them out to pee, but they crave affection too. Be prepared to be the focus of your attention when you are home! [ Reply | More ]

Is someone there every day, or does DD go elsewhere when you travel? If you're there every day I would actually recommend a pair of female guinea pigs. They're very cuddly and affectionate but can be cared for more on your schedule than theirs. But if you're gone for a few days at a time a cat would be simpler. [ Reply | More ]

A cat. No question. 1000x easier. Go to a shelter and get one with a lot of personality that comes up to you, wants to play etc. You can get the same benefits of a companion pet without any of the drawbacks of a dog. I have several dogs but I am home permanently without small kids and have the time to devote to them. [ Reply | More ]

this! We have a busy life (3 kids, 2 WOHM parents) and we would never be able to have a dog. Unless you have extra $$$ to hire walkers, etc., and the dogs still need a higher degree of attention. Cats of course do need attention, but are significantly more independent than dogs. We have a persian mix of some sort, and she's very friendly. Likes to sleep in between DH and I, actually. Cat x 1000000. You need to walk a dog several times a day plus go to groomers, vets more often and can't be left alone for any long stretch. A cat essentially takes about 10 minutes of work a day and can be easily left alone. [ Reply | More ]

Cat. I'm a dog person. Dog needs a lot more exercise. So even if you hire dog walker, be prepared to walk it at night. [ Reply | More ]

I have had both. Either is a commitment. Dog definitely more time and money (walking, etc), but caf from shelter came with a hoard of issues inc getting upset and peeing all over whenever we left for more than a night (in case you don't know, cat pee is disgusting). Personally, I would not get a pet unless you and your dh are 100% committed to another family member. [ Reply | More ]

all kids love furry animals. if your kid expects to play with a pet in the back yard, a cant wont cut it. a cat is better than nothing, but she's asking for a dog. If you wanted a dog, would you be happy if you came home with a cat instead. 2 different animals, people! [ Reply | More ]

The only school I would turn down BS for is Stuy. Don't get hung up on not many from their go Ivy. Very few, if any, legacies, and many need financial aid. Financial aid for college is NOT the same as TT privates in NYC. Bar is much lower for how much income you have to get finaid. For colleges, about 150 or so, no finaid, many with 100 and only one kid will not get financial aid. [ Reply | More ]
