We have insurance and got a referral from the pediatrician to go to the cardiologist to check my son because he has a heart murmur (he's fine by the way!) The cardiologist takes our insurance. This is going to work out, right? Anyone have this happen and then the insurance just kicked in late or they put a code in wrong or something? I have to wait until tomorrow to call... we can afford it, but it would stink to have such a large unplanned expense. 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] I want to throw up. I left my old job a year ago. I saw one of my former co-workers on the street today around lunch time. We weren't really close and we didn't work in the same unit but she sat nearby and was always so nice to me. The last time I saw her she was around 7 months pregnant with twins. So I see her on a street we say hi, hug and kiss. So then I say how are the twins, they must be so cute and big. She gives me the hardest blank stare you can ever imagine for about 10 seconds then she burst into tears in the middle of the street. She had a miscarriage. I'm such an idiot. I have never felt more mortified in my life. I just made this woman relive that horrible experience. My stomach is still in knots. We hugged and talked and I walked her back to her office. It feels so awful leaving it like this. My DH said to send her a hand written note. Wwyd? 19 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Interesting. I assume this applies to boys too? If it's just that certain changing factors (which I might loosely describe as environmental) are causing puberty to hit earlier, that troubles me somewhat less. I assume this earlier-puberty thing applies to boys as well? [ Reply | More ]

Not that I've read, but I'm no expert. The more body fat you have, the higher your circulating estrogen and apparently that can contribute to an earlier puberty. (Great simplified.) So I don't think that would affect boys in the same way. [ Reply | More ]

My 9.5yo started sprouting very small nubs that were visible under her shirt. We got some training bras (really, just a shortened undershirt with an elastic band) and the occasional undershirt to smooth out her shirts. There are no breasts, but she was definitely becoming self-conscious of the very small changes. She would mention every now and then how so-and-so wears a bra. I didn't expect any of this so soon, she's on the skinny side, 10th percentile weight since birth. I dunno, maybe I sprouted small buds but my clothes made them imperceptible? I believe my pre-teen wardrobe consisted of mostly cotton blouses. There are so many stretchy-nylon fabrics now that reveal every shade of contour. [ Reply | More ]

We are very happy there and live in Gram Park area. The turnover thing is a bit of myth - I don't think there's much more than at other independent schools. Love the teachers. Parent body is generally down-to-earth and interesting - not flashy, which was was important to us. [ Reply | More ]

There are some other UWS families but it'd be a haul. There is a public bus but I'd think of it more for an older kid. Can you see about pvt bus service? I love schools in the neighborhood. Other options? [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] My DCs SM openly hates SD15, is nice to SS12. Both are normal kids, if anything SD is nicer. She told ex she doesnt want to visit anymore, but would see him outside of his house. He was non-committal, but then DS said he doesnt want to go there either, that SM has chased his sister out. Ex is now beside himself. I suggested family counseling, but I think it is too late. 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Just talk to DH about it. Don't worry what SM thinks-you are trying to foster healthy relationships for your children. IF she interptrets another way then too bad. [ Reply | More ]

NP: I disagree with this advice--whether your or your DD or anybody else likes it or not, this person is in your children's lives and everybody would be best served by figuring out how to get along. What is up with your DD? Is she angry about the divorce? Or something else? She might benefit from having a place to go and vent/figure out things privately. And family therapy would also be a good idea. Good luck to you all. [ Reply | More ]
