[ - ] Confession: I'm a part time wohm, 3 days a wk but DH still does all the grocery shopping, cooking, dishes, laundry, finances, paperwork and enters most calendar stuff. He would and can do home repairs but I prefer to hire those out. I do appointments, carpool, keep house de-cluttered and organized. Cleaning lady comes every 2 wks. Older kids so house stays pretty clean. I am mostly free on my days off to do whatever I want. We eat out about half the time. When kids were little, we had nannies or babysitters to help. I have really not done much of the heavy lifting at home. 12 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] DH interprets so many things I say as a complaint when that is not my intention at all. For example, I said "do you know what day it is today?" as a joke when I woke up (it's my birthday, and I know he knows) and he said that sounded like a complaint. I'll talk about how I'd like to spend more time Upstate, and he will also interpret that as a complaint instead of just me expressing a wish. What should I do? We don't have big issues or resentments- his biggest issue is I complain too much 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

So just to use your birthday 'joke' as an example. For me, I would relate to your DH. I would think, 'wow, we've been up for 4 minutes and she's already kind of hazing me about whether I forgot her birthday rather than just waiting and seeing the nice thing I had planned.' It just kind of takes the wind out of his sails if he did have something planned. I also hate when people aren't direct about things. Do you passively aggressively approach things rather than just asking head on? That would drive me crazy. As far as the upstate thing goes, are you saying 'we don't spend enough time upstate' or are you saying 'you know honey, I'd love to spend more time upstate...if you are, I'm gonna get that on the docket.' Tell us your approach. [ Reply | More ]

DH was promoted from ops to a trader at a hedge fund a year ago and since then has also received another promotion.. with 0 financial incentive. His company only gives raises at year end (bullshit) and this year his supervisor has told him to find some comps in the market (he is trading mortgage backed securities, which is a very specific job and he is the only one at his fund doing this position - it was a new position he was moved into, so he spearheaded it). He is doing well and is making money for the company but is SEVERELY underpaid. I remember you. Is it a huge firm? otherwise I don't understand the policy that only gives raises at year end. I would recommend that he sit down not with his boss, but his boss's boss as well, and talk about his new role, responsibilities and what his expectations are for year end. Have him keep it open minded (Since you are happy with my performance and I have exceeded the expectations of my role, have been promoted and made the firm 25million USD this year, I assume that you will increase my base and bonus accordingly?) keep it open. Then if they low ball him he can bring up comps. have them promise that they will make him whole at year end. [ Reply | More ]

I think it may have something to do with grade inflation. Kids with at 4.0+ gpa should not receive three scores in the 600s for the SAT. And it's ridiculous that so many kids graduate with a 4.6, 4.7 ect gpa. I went to TTSS in nyc where the highest gpa was a 4.0 and the kids with a 4.0 usually had stellar SAT scores. There was none of this exta GPA points for AP classes because by 11th grade everyone was taking AP classes. Even if you weren't a math or chem start you took AP English, AP art history, AP Spanish, ect. [ Reply | More ]

In our co-op, where apartments now are a minimum of $1 million plus, there are perhaps 1/3 of the original owners who might not get into the building now. This is just to give you a snapshot of the building. We look at financials first. if you are owning the co-op with no mortgage, our concern would be ability to cover maintenance. If you can do that, we can't really discriminate based on profession. It really is based on the building's character - don't assume you won't be approved. I would present a very comprehensive board package - don't be lazy. Perhaps consult with a broker who has handled sales in the building, he/she will know what the board likes. Worth paying a someone a consulting fee to get an idea. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Most states require you to REGISTER to vote by early October. Once you're registered, many states have early voting. Check this list for your state. Why wait until November 8th, when the lines will be long? 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Depending on where you live, and where they have assigned you to vote, the lines can be very long. Each state is different. [ Reply | More ]

But Georgia and Florida do. Each state is different. Think of how many people travel for work in New York? There's your valid travel reason to vote absentee. [ Reply | More ]

In Boston or NY? Nobody really cares where the kids go to school but I think they would be curious if Giselle had the kids in school in NYC. It would be the same curiosity people have about many celebrity relationships and why it is a multi-bazillion dollar industry [ Reply | More ]

Please. The only reason people have any interst is if after nanny gate Giselle now lives in a different city than Tom. This would be clear from the city in which kids are enreolled in school. Nobody cares at all about which school it is. [ Reply | More ]

I have a son in HS and dd in middle. I bought nothing this year except page dividers and one backpack since prior one wore out. No clothes, or anything else. We aren't poor. I asked them if they want or need anything and they said no. I love to shop but they just don't want anything. In fact, ds told me any kid who shows up in HS with a bunch of colored markers would be made fun of! [ Reply | More ]
