[ - ] every time SIL, who is single and lives in the same town as us, hangs out with our children (once every few months), she is visibly annoyed and tries to discipline. we have three young boys and they get roudy often. this bothers me as she is there by choice. want to bring this up to MIL. should I? 17 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Yes, it takes time to fill out, time that they'd otherwise be seeing patients but can't because they are busy doing your form. My ped doesn't charge if we bring the form with us to the physical exam and they can fill it out as they go. If we drop it off days/weeks/months later, they charge, because they have to dedicate some time to go back through her records and re-record everything that happened at the visit. [ Reply | More ]

Are you bringing the form with your kid to the checkup? our doctor will do that for free because they count it as part of the visit. like the above poster, i have brought the form in before at a later date, and needing it back by the next day, and i was charged for needing it "same day" as they called it. which i was fine with because i saw a stack of at least 10 forms that were on the "same day" pile so our doctor was obviously going to have to stay late and do them all. i was shocked there were so many there, but the receptionist said that every single patient needs a school form done in august, for the most part, and she said the pediatrician does like 30 forms a day most days and that it typically takes about 3 hours or sometimes longer to get them all done.... unfortunately, the school needs to form returned by Aug 20 and my DD's birthday isn't until 10 days later, so her appt is later. So I have to drop it off and pick it up at a later time, which I am willing to do. I don't need it overnight. True, but vaccines and checkups are also business as usual, and they don't do those for free either. [ - ] Anyone else think OP of the golf post is fake? A true experienced golfer would just jump in and complete someone else's foursome by signing up as a single. An experienced golfer probably plays with strangers in a foursome the majority of the time. A true golfer would never take this as "oh, I can't golf now, because my husband doesn't want me to come along!" . They'd just join a different group and let their husband do his male bonding. My husband golfs as a single probably twice a month, it's such a normal thing. 16 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Maybe that was most of her problem. I took the problem as "I'm a better golfer and I love to golf and they won't let me" which, to any golfer, is obviously fake because no one needs to "let" you, you don't need a "team" to do it, you just get paired with whoever is ready. [ Reply | More ]

No, the problem was that the plan (created by her DH, who is arranging the trip) is that the men would golf, and the women would shop and sit by the pool (i.e. she has been assigned to entertain the wives while he golfs). [ Reply | More ]

Maybe it's different since I wasn't involved in the whole bitchfest going on in that post so I don't have any real strong emotions tied to it... but that seems like a gross exaggeration from the things OP actually said. I think it was fake. I was the poster whose DH's family always goes on these trips and once had the SIL who insisted on tagging along. The comments were over the top like my family has problems; is LMC; is weird and I was "horrifying." The truth is that DH's family has a Caribbean home where there is a great golf course within reach but not really much else to do but relax and watch the kids. Several of us work and we like to sit and sun and drink and watch our children and make filets on the grill. We buy the meat at home in the US and carry it down with freezer packs because of the prices on the island. You could shop if you wanted to get on a bus into the centre but I'm not offended by that. DH's parents also pay for everyone's airfare at least once annually during school vacation to come down with them (and there are 35+ members of the family). So if FIL wants to golf with his sons and his sons-in-law - that's the end of the story. And again - SIL is very cool now - but she was just a PITA newcomer about 15 years ago. She didn't golf and just insisted on shaking things up for whatever immature reason of her own at the time. And it showed. That's all. [ Reply | More ]

I had sooooo many roommates in college! When I first went to college, I did not win the lottery to get into the dorms so I rented a 1 bedroom apartment. The monthly rent was more than the annual tuition! No one could afford that alone, so we split it 3 ways. We had a single bed and got a bunk bed from a fraternity house so we could sleep 3 people in the apartment. Roommates cycled in and out. I moved to various dorms and apartments with assorted roommates. By the time I graduated from undergrad, I had had 14 roommates. I don't keep in contact with anyone, although there are a few that it would be fun to reconnect with. Alas, college was a looooong time ago. [ Reply | More ]

I have 3 dcs, work ft, and my dh isn't all that helpful which is still easier. I had a live-in for the first year and a pt nanny. Pt gave live-in a break while live-in also helped at night. You have to be able to function at work. It's for 1 year only then you can handle it. I didn't pay anything remotely close to UB rates for either nanny. [ Reply | More ]

I think you need to own the fact that you wanted another child. To say that "I decided to give DS a sibling" it sounds as though you are trying to remove the responsibility of this decision away from you, which sounds lame. You wouldn't be the only single mother with twins. It's not going to be easy, for sure, but it is doable, and you do make a lot of money. You will be fine. But don't dump your decision on a 2 year old. [ Reply | More ]

of course not but twins and a toddler is very very difficult and if you couple this with a ft job and she is the only provider its really tough. i am the mom of 3 from above and i couldn't handle it to be honest. i would move to queens or cheaper area in Brooklyn, rent a 3br, get one live in nanny and one ft nanny to work on a weekends and 1/2 days during work week. I could not do twins and 3 yo on my own an entire time I am not working and still be productive at work. I just could not do it. [ Reply | More ]

There are issues that need to be resolved. Federal housing lawsuit mandates affordable housing, don't know where or how much. The French American School is moving to White Plains, so likely the home were those kids live will be populated with public school residents in the future (and expat homes turn over quickly). There was a discrimination issue in on of the Mamaroneck schools (same district), plainteffs want busing. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] 14 yo DD NYC TT has a lot of friends talking about internships they want to do next summer... I'm not from NYC, we aren't ├╝ber wealthy and from what I can see a lot of these kids get their placements from their parents connections. Dh & I don't work in an industry where DD can intern at 15. What can she start looking for? She has no idea what she wants to be but toys with the ideas of veterinary medicine and becoming a chef LOL. Are these 'internships' valuable? I see the benefit of proper internship schemes for college kids etc, but isn't this just rich kids playing at working when they're 15? 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I'd urge her to find internships that she might not even think she's interested in. My parents were in no position to get me an internship either, but I took ballet and had some good friends at ballet school with parents in high places that hooked me up... to this day I am thankful as I think it directly impacted my success and I learned a lot. I did one at a radio production company, and one in customer service. I work in neither industry now, but I learned so much about professional working environments (one being more casual, the other corporate), etc. [ Reply | More ]
