I'm one and done too. I think there are several things going on: percentage of people think it is a duty to have as many as possible (for religious reasons); there is a myth that only children are weird and that still persists today; people think that siblings are beneficial (which is true in a lot of cases but it is not a general rule in my opinion); the idea that with more kids, there's more love to go around, including caring for parents in their elder years; and finally, people want more kids for whatever reason, and expect others to have the same wants/desires and just can't "understand" why you would stop with one. Those are my thoughts. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] i went through a really horrible divorce a little while back actually about 8 yrs ago (married young). I have been in a relationship now for about 5 yrs with a man i love to no end but i am terrified of getting married again. He has proposed once before but i said no. im just so afraid of having things go wrong and have to be subjected to another nasty divorce over money, property and now kids (i have 2 dc from my current relationship. 0 dc from previous marriage) our families and some friends act so appalled that we arent getting married. Is it really that important that we MUST be married for crying out loud? 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

How could not matter? Money earned in a marriage is marital money and is divided upon divorce. If they are never married, it is separate. You know if you have kids together, it's going to be ugly if you split up anyway and there will still be fighting over custody and jointly owned property. I really don't understand your thinking. As you should know from experience, marriage is not what makes the commitment, or the headaches. But it sure beats having to ever publicly utter the phrase "my baby daddy."
