[ - ] Why am I the only one who thinks its good that my boys act like, well, boys? No, they don't run around restaurants or hit people or grab toys, but they constantly run, they jump, they ride their bikes too fast and leave their Nerf guns on the lawn and will fight you to get to the soccer ball first in a race. It seems like all around me I see these boys raised by SAHMs (in my town there are A LOT of them) with fathers who are rarely around who are taught to act like little Fauntleroys. No running! No picking up sticks or rocks! No digging in the mud! Then my boys come around and people act like they're savages because they don't immediately try to share everything they have with the other kids and make sure to not mess up the gravel on the driveway with their bike tires. 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I am culturally religious. I believe in science but I think a lot of religious stories are based on something (ie: crossing the red sea may have been the people getting across the sea of "reeds" but the heavier horses/army sunk) and stories that evolved to teach lessons or explain things that couldn't be explained. I think the underlying principles of most religions are based on good -- love thy neighbor, help the poor, etc. But I take it for what I think it is -- folklore and stories. And if something bad happens to a good person I don't say "its gods will" bc IMO that's BS. [ Reply | More ]

Take away everything except his bed, a set of sheets, and one week's worth of clothes and a pair of shoes. Every day that he behaves respectfully, he can earn back one item; every day he behaves like a brat, he loses three. Also, you aren't giving him enough chores to do. Stop fighting. He's doing it because he wants the fight. Let him be late to school. Let him go hungry. Let him explain to the coach why he wasn't at practice. I see a lot of parents who demand behavior from their kids so they're not embarrassed. Act like the adult. Tell him - look, I'm an adult and I don't have time for this. I don't react to childishness. It's attention seeking behavior. Kids figure out early that getting you riled up is a great way to get your attention. I really do highly recommend acting like kind a jerk to your kids when they get like this. Imagine walking into a very, very rich and powerful person's home and saying "hey, I HATE this wine! I only drink Pinot Grigio! And what's with this cheese? It's AWFUL!" What would they do? They'd politely just walk away from you because they don't have to put up with your nonsense. Same with your kids. Don't fight them any more than you'd get into a screaming match with the clerk at CVS. Just act like you have better things to worry about. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] So consider this. Genetically speaking, fat people are actually superior to naturally skinny ones. Your body is supposed to store excess calories as fat in the event that food is not available in the future. It's the hallmark of a properly functioning body. Skinny people would be the first to die off as recently as 100 years ago, as they have little ability to store energy for the times when food became scarce. So people who are fat have to actually counteract their body's natural, genetically advanced nature to store calories as fat by eating as little as possible and forcing their bodies into starvation. 13 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Highly adapted bodies will store as many calories as possible. The rapid change in lifestyles over the last century means that unless we all go back to being farmers half-starving in the winter months the way we live now will lead to obesity among many people who are genetically evolved specifically to make them obese. So sure, those people now have to hijack their bodies to starve them into a healthy weight, but let's not pretend that it's normal to have to do that. [ Reply | More ]

+1. While the overweight person may live longer in a time of scarcity, we also evolved in a way (either through agricultural means or technology) which allows us to forego the need to store fat. [ Reply | More ]

Yes of course that's true. But my point is - the people who struggle with their weight are actually genetically and biologically the most adapted. So they have to deliberately counteract their body's desire to do exactly what millions of years of evolution have developed it to do since its only in the last 70 or so years that food has become plentiful at all times. If that's the case, then they need to adopt a lifestyle wherein the store fat for the winter, and then lose it all in the summer months. I feel bad for you. DH acted poorly and it ruined the day. But this is what you get when you marry a guy for money or other characteristics and not his personality. You chose this kind of guy. [ Reply | More ]

He has. He's been in therapy and I haven't seen anything like this in years. It's a hugely stressful and emotional time but I'm also terrified that he's going down this road... [ Reply | More ]

He sounds like a mad teenage boyfriend, sort of immature. I'm sorry he couldn't pull it together and make a nice day. [ Reply | More ]

he's dealing with a lot and acted poorly. remember, it's not you, it's the situation, and I bet he feels a bit out of control. don't let your argument ruin the lovely memories you have of yesterday. [ Reply | More ]

That's the thing- I remember him calling me "fucking dumb" and a "fucking idiot" and my parents asking why we didn't take any family pictures. Oh and then being berated after dcs went to sleep [ Reply | More ]

he's not himself. I would still tell him, I know you're upset, and I know a lot of this just has to do with the situation, but you are not to talk to me that way. Ever. Draw some boundaries and enforce them. That doesn't mean he shouldn't get a pass for acting immature -- he does get a pass within reason. [ Reply | More ]

It's not harmless it's totally inappropriate. This guy is NOT a friend to your bf and apparently neither are you. If you want to go out with this guy break up and go right ahead [ Reply | More ]
