[ - ] Shame on Amanda Uhry of the Manhattan Private School Advisors for criticizing working parents. And shame on the Post for fanning the flames. Make no mistake, ladies: Whenever someone says, "Parents aren't doing the right thing," they mean MOMS. You. Us. And we should NOT put up with it. 29 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

My dcs are in a school that doesn't allow nannies to do this. I also don't have a nanny. no, you're not, constant negativity is exhausting, and it's also hard to worry about your kid and not know how to help! just keep talking with him, point out that you think he's great and that he will be more successful making friends by showing them his good traits and having fun than by being negative. invite friends over for playdates if you can. totally normal to experiment with teen attitude earlier these days (unfortunately) and this does seem to be the age where kids start to bully - he has probably seen put-downs work for other kids and is just trying it out. remind him how he'd feel if he heard a classmate saying something mean about him. I'm a NP who works in Gyn. The right pill is really very personal - they are all good for somebody, but one person may have a bunch of side effects that don't bother another person at all. When I prescribe I usually prefer to start with the lower dose estrogen pills that use levonorgestral as the progesterone, as that is a 2nd generation progesterone that is pretty well tolerated. Examples would be Lutera, Sronyx (these are generics, most insurers cover generics rather than brand unless there is a prior authorization.) That said, some people need a higher estrogen dose for good cycle control and in that case I like Levora (also generic.) [ Reply | More ]

Generally, people become less happy with each kid they have. It's ironic, but true. Sure, in an existential sense it meets a need to 'live on' in future generations and feels very meaningful, but if you just measure how happy people report being, children are a downer for happiness. I say this as a happy and proud parent, btw. [ Reply | More ]

No, I don't think happier at all - in fact, I'd say exactly the opposite, b/c most of the women I know who never had kids wanted them. But I think they are probably better-looking, b/c their bodies didn't get stretched out and they have more time to take care of themselves. [ Reply | More ]

+1000. The shit that middle school boys pull is epic. I sub in 7th and 8th grade and I have literally seen boys jump up and attack each other, throw food, run from teachers, hide under tables so you have to climb under there and drag them out, flip off teachers and curse at them, trip kids on the stairs, show up to school high and/or drunk, flip open locks around on weaker kids' lockers when they aren't looking ... And this is supposedly an upper middle class HS with a pretty good state rating. Yet the vice principal walks around with a whistle and a protective vest. The middle school is actually worse than the high school. [ Reply | More ]
