[ - ] Business trip to DC here where my coworker blew off everything-said she had to sleep after flying, didn't attend anything because she doesn't go out in strange towns. Boss should be pissed. Your coworker treated her job like it was a vacation to stay in a hotel room and watch TV for a few days. Fireable offense. Did you massively throw her under the bus or did you just clearly state the facts. How old is this employee again? Like 22? [ Reply | More ]

People who take care of themselves, tend to have less chronic diseases. So they would prefer to go for a HDHP, saving $ in premiums and keeping it on a tax-shelter for THEIR own future health care expenses (that's what a HSA is). So think that instead of giving $ to those who don't take care of themselves, and hence can't have a high deductible, these healthier people save the $ and keep it for themselves. [ Reply | More ]

Hiring people who don't take care of their health, is the equivalent to imposing his/her family's inflated health care costs on every single current employee. Including the person who is deciding on doing the hiring. The ones that don't care: Walmart-type of employers who shift the burden of health-care to the taxpayer (through signing them up on Medicaid). That's why there's a ton of fat people working at Walmart, but none working for Trader Joe's (a company that doesn't shift health insurance costs to the taxpayer, but pays it itself). In USA the preventable chronic issues are diseases that affect the adults after years and years of abuse to their bodies. Kids have less health care issues in general but when they have a big issue, it's the unexpected catastrophic type (say cancer). Think diabetes type 2 (adult, bad habits, preventable) vs diabetes type 1 (juvenile, genetic, not preventable). I'm all for paying my part of the cost of diabetes type 1. Those with diabetes type 2, I prefer them out of my own risk pool. [ Reply | More ]

Tech companies have a much healthier pool than the average company: young, very smart STEM people tend to do much better health-care wise than the typical American. But still, it's nice for these people to be able to enjoy lower premiums and save that $ for their own future expenses. [ Reply | More ]

I don't agree with the current system in which I have to help pay for preventable chronic diseases of somebody else, just because it's in my pool. I'm all for risk-pooling for uncertain catastrophic diseases you can't really prevent nor anticipate. But if it's preventable and they have their own assets and HHI above certain amount, these people should be asked to pay that for themselves. Maybe that way, people would take more care of their health than they are doing. Why should a young renter with student loans pay for the cost of obesity of a home owner who got a big inheritance? This kind of cost shifting makes no sense. [ Reply | More ]

Nine years ago, no one was creating movements within the company, with calibers being bought in to be cased. What grade will your older sib be in next year? Assuming not 1st grade. Problem with 2nd grade and above is it is up to the school principal to decide if she wants to fill the spot. DOE doesn't mandate the spots to be filled until in 1st grade. She might not want to bother if there is say only 2 spots from attrition and 4 sibs want it, she might just say no to all to avoid parent politics. [ Reply | More ]

And now, they have open corruption at the highest echelon of government. All black people had to do was just keep chugging along. But nope. Gonna be like Zimbabwe and the rest of sub Saharan Africa. 19 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Then this is a good lesson that we don't always get what we want to do and how do deal with disappointment. [ Reply | More ]

You're really mean. Not saying kid needs to go to every single thing but this is a big part of feeling happy and included in a peer group. [ Reply | More ]

Please. They are going to all of the events and activities every other weekend. That's plenty for children. [ Reply | More ]

How old are your kids? I'd say under 8 or so, missing parties and games is fine. They won't be affected and it will give your ex an opportunity to step up (or figure out another way to kill time with them). If they are older and teammates/ friends would give the kids a hard time for missing things, I'd take them, at least until things calm down with the divorce. [ Reply | More ]

OP: Older son is 10 yo and on a competitive travel team--he would risk getting kicked off the team if he misses games. And the birthday parties he wants to go to are generally for close friends and he would be very upset if he missed them. [ Reply | More ]

At ten this stuff matters a lot. I would take him. Added bonus that you get to see him on your off weekends. [ Reply | More ]

OP: And to add, my DS loves playing his sport and would be very upset to miss a game and would feel like he let his team down. [ Reply | More ]

Then you shouldn't sign him up for teams/leagues that have practices & games during Dad's custody time, unless you get Dad's commitment first. [ Reply | More ]

OP: There are no such teams/leagues. It's not like ex is spending quality time with them otherwise; they're just usually watching TV while ex's parents nap in their bedroom and ex is at work. [ Reply | More ]

Do not enable. He wants all of the fun, but none of the work. Frankly, you should go back to court and change custody so he has more weekdays and you have more weekends. [ Reply | More ]

yes, because she can just do that, not likely that the court will take away father's weekend over birthday parties [ Reply | More ]

OP: He will not have more weekdays and I don't think doesn't want them, mainly because he would have a difficult time getting the kids to school on time in the morning (has an erratic work schedule). [ Reply | More ]

Exactly. He doesn't want to do any of the work. It's time to push back on that. He should have half the week, so you get a break from some of the work and you can make take the kids to more of the parties and activities. [ Reply | More ]

Keep at it for a short while, but go back to court and change the arrangement so he has more weekdays. This isn't working and won't work in the long run. [ Reply | More ]

Let him take the kids the day of the party and let him deal with the tantrum that ensues when they know they're missing something they want. Consequences make change. [ Reply | More ]

Because I have the kids the rest of the time and have plans during the weekend when ex has the kids, including catching up on work, and ex typically bails at the last minute, like today, for a party tomorrow and sports games on Sunday, so I have to rearrange my whole weekend schedule. OP: I have been doing all the stuff, and I like doing it, but this weekend is particularly hard for me as I have a lot of work to do and was planning on doing it this weekend. But I will do it because I know ex won't and it's important to my DS. [ Reply | More ]
