[ - ] My MIL lives out-of-state and we are visiting her in 2 months where we rent a cabin for all of us and stay for 2 weeks. We celebrate my DD bday there with a cake and a few cousins. We are having DD's "officil" birthday party with her friends here in a month. If I include my MIL on the evite, is it an invitation to fly her in for it? We are expected to pay for flights, and we live in a tiny apt. I dont want to be evil and not send her an evite, but if I do, will she come? i know I'm horrible. DH feels the same, so please dont judge :-o 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I wouldn't expect an out of town relative to come in for a child's bday party that wasn't a special event (ie: Bat Mitzvah, Communion, etc). I think the party at your home is for her friends and the party when you visit your family is for your family. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] wdyt? Boy in my DD's3rd grade class is very shy but completely fine socially. Every year, it's obvious that the school bends over backwards to put this boy in a class with his two closest friends. Meanwhile, for everyone else, it's a total crapshoot. This is not speculative. It's a fact. The mother says it almost proudly. Is this fair to the other kids/families? 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

OP. Luckily, my children don't have special needs and they get along well with everyone. go ahead and bother - my kid did ok for K testing but only 92% overall and then 98% for 1st grade testing. yes, Delta is now 8/9th of the school (I think there is just one academic class). I don't think its what it used to be. All it has left is the old reputation and a bunch of parents who are happy because they think they got a selective school [ Reply | More ]

Wouldn't it still have the same curriculum and teachers? And wouldn't it have the best students since it is the best D3 middle school program? Do you feel that WESS is competing for the top students because it's 6-12? [ Reply | More ]

I feel that they don't really have a curriculum other than standard set of assignments that they give out and I frankly believe parents are helping with. I feel that the teacher quality is not even. I don't know what it means to have 250 best students in D3...KWIM [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] to the OP of the MP post about not doing drop-off play dates, how old are your kids and do you think the analysis changes as your kids get older? Or are you saying your 12 year old can't hang out with friends after school without you present? 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

It is on a case by case basis. If I am not comfortable the playdate is out. Can't take any chances. [ Reply | More ]

As a parent of teenagers, I don't really see how this works. Are you saying your teenagers have to come straight home after school each day? No socializing that isn't pre-vetted by you? [ Reply | More ]

This is concerning. Your children will never learn to use their own judgment, make their own decisions, or navigate life without mommy tracking them and making all of the decisions. np [ Reply | More ]

So your kids will go off to college never having used their own judgment about other people. Or are your kids going to live at home during college? That's what our housekeeper does. She has 5 kids. 2 oldest in college. They could only apply to school commuting distance and they live at home. The younger ones have never done play dates. Kids are allowed to come to their house but they aren't allowed to go to other people's houses. They are Eastern European immigrants. I think this thinking is more common in immigrant communities. I really like Britax car seats - it's all we've used for our dc's. I feel like graco is crap - but that's just my opinion. [ Reply | More ]

Unless you and husband are super short get the infant seat that is current model of something like grace safeseat. My kids would have outgrown the snug ride way before 1 yo. Also if you own a car get the Britax. I loved ours but the ability to take a cab with the safeseat was terrific. [ Reply | More ]
