There is no right thing. LL is a great public school. In the old days parents didn't overthink everything. And by old days, I mean way back in 2006 when NEST was the subject of ridicule on UB and parents used g&t programs to get their kids out of sub-par publics and not because they obsessed about their kids getting a special gifted education. Sad, and if the DOE would not have given in to the silly cry to establish more citywides, lots of this "nervousness" would be ended. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] I met a guy who was married, we had sex on the first night. Carried on this affair for 2 years. He ended up divorcing and marrying me. Anybody else shares a similar background? Happily married for 7 years, 1 dc together (we each had dc from previous relationships). I never tell the whole story, but decided to share with UB since there seems to be so much hatred towards the OW. Sometimes the OW is just the catalyst. 21 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

How can you say you are happily married? Do you have no moral compass? I.e., I couldn't look my husband in the face if he knew that I had done something so heinous. Is it "ok" with you because you both did it? Or is it that you don't think lying and cheating is wrong in every circumstance? [ Reply | More ]

Maybe I am the only one here - but I understand that emotions and relationships are complex and not black and white. [ - ] Not sure what to do about my marriage. DH is cheap to the pint where he does t like going out to eat at a pricey restaurant. Didn't want to vacation in Europe because its too expensive. Won't buy new clothes until his old clothes get too ratty to wear. Eats breakfast every day at his moms (she lives a few blocks away from us). I am wondering if I should cut my losses and move on, we don't have DCs (I am 38, he is 46). Is there any hope in changing him? 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

He enjoys his frugal life because he tells me he manages to save $500K by living like a pauper for half his life. He used to bike to work so he wouldn't have to pay for the subway fares during the summer. He also drives a used car that someone donated to his boss at a charity event and his boss gave it to him as a bonus, so he kept it. (It's a 1998 sedan). We are married 3 years now, I earn a slightly higher income than him, but I never thought he would still be so frugal. I thought he would want to enjoy the money we bring home every month (about $11K after taxes). [ Reply | More ]

Her house is on his way to work. He gets in at 7:30 am so he stops by at 6:30 to have coffee. A first I thought it was sweet because he cares about her (she is 82 years old). But now I think it's because he's too cheap to grab a bagel and coffee at the deli! (I get up for work at 8 am). [ Reply | More ]

My twin dds are 13 months and we still do bottles for milk 3x a day - not in a rush to cut out. They use straw cups with water for meals, they get alot more milk from bottle and it comforts them plus pediatrician is fine with it. Bottle doesn't linger - they drink the milk then we take away. On the go we do the straw cups with water. We got them used to the straw cups very early On. [ Reply | More ]

Brush teeth before bed. The whole 'no bottle at one' is ridiculous. FWIW- my first never 'got' the sippy cup. He was so obsessed with getting the water out and just made a big mess. Straw cups were fine. Bottles and/or nursing after 1 is just fine - it's comforting and only in our little competitive, neurotic circle is this even a 'thing' - go w/ the flow. #2 didn't want anything to do w/ the bottle or nursing at that age -- wanted to be like his big bro.. None of this stuff matters at all. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] S.o (sort of) re low tone...dh went to doctor years ago for a sore leg and doctor told him he had poor muscle tone and needed to do exercises. Gave him an elastic band thing. Needless to say dh never did them. This was when dh was 26. Now is in 30s and while recently joined gym and goes regularly he is much less fit than a typical 35yr old. He is tall, good looking, well built but is tired all the time. Likes sport, skiing, hiking, kayaking, but always complains he's tired, especially when excersising. Has been like this whole time I have known him (since early 20s). What is wrong with him? any tips to improve? 16 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

So what can be done? Is it just something to live with? I am thrilled he is going to gym, assume this will help. We have been away on camping/outdoors trips with lots of others our age and I am always struck by how tired/unfit he is compared to other guys. He is not fat/slobby. [ Reply | More ]

If he's low tone he will tire out more quickly than the average person. It takes a lot more effort to do activities. That is just who he is. [ Reply | More ]

Get him to go get advice about good supplements to take. Makes a huge difference for me when I remember to take them consistently. [ Reply | More ]

I bet it's more that you take them consistently when you are high energy and exercising, and not that the supplements are the reason [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Okay, so my ds is 10 and his testicles are starting to drop and hang. I miss that tight little bunch against his body. Thing is, his "organ" has not enlarged too much. Anyone have a teen boy and remember when it got significantly bigger? 25 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

This is creepy. I have a 13 yo DS and while I'm sure his junk has started to hang and grow and all I don't examine it and haven't seen it in years. And i don't mourn the tight little bunch. Wtf? Buy a book on puberty. They illustrate the stages. We bought one for DS when he was about 11. In your case it would be helpful too as you seem clueless [ Reply | More ]

NP: because she "miss(es) that tight little bunch against his body." I have an 11yo ds. I have a 13yo dd. I make the effort to review developmental stages so I stay informed. At annual ped visits, I give dc time alone with ped, then ask ped privately if things are on track and what I need to know. For ds, I also ask dh if I have questions. If I did not have a dh, I would ask ped or a trusted male friend/relative if I had an important question. Finally, it is normal to be aware of your dc's general development and major milestones (such as getting first period). It is odd and, yes, creepy, to be so aware of your dc's sexual organs that you have developed an attachment to their appearance and are monitoring the size in this level of detail. OP also phrased it like an immature child or pedophile, as opposed to a genuinely curious parent. [ Reply | More ]

Op- LOL...you women need to unclench. You don't miss the younger version of your child? It was the pediatrician who told me it was going to happen soon and I just didn't ask for timing. My ds walks around naked between his bedroom and the bath - should he be uptight about his body? [ Reply | More ]

I do not miss the younger version of my child's genitalia, no, I do not. I do wistfully think of younger version of my kids, but it never focuses on specific physical descriptions of their scrotum, penis, vulva, labia, nipples, etc. Based on the replies, you are in the vast minority. So much so that I strongly urge you to seek outside guidance for how to maintain proper sexual boundaries in your home. Most parents do not strive to teach their children to be "uptight" about their bodies, but we DO strive to teach them a sense of normal boundaries and developing a sense of privacy about their bodies is a normal developmental process. Normal boundaries do not negate the ability to have an open, healthy dialogue with your child about sexuality, puberty and development. It is not an all or nothing process. [ Reply | More ]
