It's not about prizing it or not, but the skills you have maintained in the last five years have been laundry, schlepping children and crafts. Totally fine! Try to avert those situations rather than punish once they've already come up. If they won't clean rooms before bedtime, have them do it when they get home, before free play. Before dinner, remind them you want napkins in laps. Pack snacks for car trips instead of snapping when they whine. Agree with this. Basically, you have to establish yourself as the parent. You don't have to allow the kids no space to be kids, but you do have to establish that when they need to do something, that's that. My grandparents all passed away when I was very young so my Mom let me call one of her elderly friends "Nana" and she became a surrogate grandparent for me during my childhood. If your grades and test scores are excellent it is not hard regardless of the public you come from. We have had prep kids come from Anderson and NEST, and being in that program makes it easier I think. But if you are UMC kid that can pay tuition and have the scores it is not hard either.
