We really aren't sure! We have been living in Manhattan for the past several years, and we both feel like we need another home outside the city. But the fact of the matter is that DH works constantly, so he won't be able to get away too often. I just work from home, so it's another story for me. We dislike the Hamptons, so that's not an option. We have MV on our list bc my aunt has a place there and says that she loves it. [ Reply | More ]

MV has a very down to earth kind of vibe but it has gotten more and more upscale each year. Rent a home in two different parts of the island this summer and see if you like it. It is a haul from NYC. Also you would have to buy a house that is "winterized" for the winter. [ Reply | More ]

MV is great but it really is far from ny plus you need to take a ferry after the long drive to get there. Do you want a beach house or would a mountain/lake area work? The berkshires is wonderful and much closer. We go to the cape every summer but we all love the year long appeal of the berkshires [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Anyone here use breastfeeding as their primary method of weight loss/maintaining a thin figure? I plan to breastfeed for 5 years after each kid. If the kid self weans, I'll just donate the milk to the local hospital so preemies can have it. Win/win. Why do more people not talk about breastfeeding as a weight loss strategy on here? I dont have any kids yet, but sitting in a couch pumping breastmilk and watching Netflix seems much easier than going to barre class every day. What possible obstacles would there be to using breastfeeding in place of working out? 32 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

No. You have to carry a bag of supplies with you. Pumps are either mechanical (thus, very heavy) or hand-pumps (which will kill your hand and take FOREVER). Then, you have to have a thermal bag with ice in it for storage. Not fun. -np [ Reply | More ]

General Topics 04.18.15, 06:46 PM Flag

You have to hold the pump on and sometimes you have to sit in a particular position to get the milk flowing. You can't move around. A baby just holds on themselves. You can even get up and do other things. The baby MAKES the milk come out, so it's fast and effective. Even if you've just fed him and he's hungry 10 minutes later, you can feed him again and your body will respond. The pump is artificial, so sometimes you get little or nothing. The pump is plastic and does not create a perfect seal like a baby, so you can get much more sore. Then, there is the constant cleaning and storing. [ Reply | More ]

I think of it as someone who is just super bourgeois and competitive. Very much entrenched in the rat race. Nothing even remotely bohemian about them. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] I don't usually have problems with constipation, but I'm experiencing some for the last day or two. I don't have any laxatives or stool softeners but have some of that dieter's tea. Will a cup of tea serve as a decent jump start? 12 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I might take your suggestion of picking up some prune juice when I go next, though. Going to make me feel so old. [ Reply | More ]

If you're not squeamish and don't want to do an enema, have DH do the same maneuver that is used to stop hiccups by stimulating the vagus nerve - basically he lubricates his finger and inserts it into your arse, and rubs vigourously toward the umbelicus, ie the belly-button. In most people this will create a strong urge to crap after a little while, along with (oddly enough) stopping hiccups, if you have them. [ Reply | More ]
