Working class whites do have some legitimate grievances, mainly the decline of the manufacturing sector and the fact that illegal immigrants do depress wages for blue collar jobs. However, Trump's narrative and solutions are deeply flawed, incorrect, and are tantamount to the greatest political scam in American history. Manufacturing jobs have been decimated by technology and automation, not trade. Trump's argument that China and Mexico are screwing us over is laughably false, not borne out by empirical data. And his proposal to impose tariffs will dramatically raise prices of imports, hurting working class people the most. Trump is a false prophet, a false messiah. His presidency will be the greatest threat to the U.S. since WWII. [ Reply | More ]

np - I was going to write the same! I'm a bit of a homebody myself. I love going out to things - the museum, concerts, etc - but only if I'm going alone or with dh or this one friend of mine. I hate parties, openings, etc. - I really don't like making conversation. And my favorite thing to do is to sit by myself and people watch. As the OR said above - I love being AROUND people all the time. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] It's my college final exam time, and I am very stressed. I deal with my stress by procrastinating, which is not a good strategy. I have a take home final exam I need to do that's due Sunday. The enormity of the task makes me put it off. I have this whole perfectionism thing going on, and I try to keep telling myself that it doesn't need to be perfect, it just needs to be good enough. Yet here I am still procrastinating on UB. 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Yes, at times, you walk around and wish there were more hip places easily accessible. No offense to Eli's but Eli's Night Shift shouldn't be considered a great new place. [ Reply | More ]

Do you live in a big, pre-war apartment? Worth the trade off to have space/a real home? [ Reply | More ]

Big, yes. Pre-war, no. We just ended up here bec we knew the neighborhood and it's a/the key hood for school choice. Trade-off is a personality thing- we don't go out that much; so when we do, it's ok to travel to diff hoods. [ Reply | More ]

^^Also, as she gets older, she envies her elderly friends who live on the UWS. They go to Lincoln Center and the theater and the movies often - and everything is on the UWS. [ Reply | More ]
