Similar to holding your eyes in slits and saying "Ching Chong Chinaman". Do you understand why that is offensive? np. But most people recognize that the person going "ching chong chinaman" is an imbecile... and is judged as such by everyone around... and the chinese person takes less offence anyway (remember it takes TWO people to cause/take offense). The US is an easier place to make more money more quickly, and certain things are more affordable. Other than those factors, it's mostly an inferior product. Too much crime/violence, too little community spirit/cohesion, massive obesity, and just a passel of other problems. I moved back to Kelowna from Houston a couple years ago and am quite happy. If I were to re-re-locate into the US again, it would be Bellingham or Seattle or somewhere within easy reach of Canada itself. [ Reply | More ]

I moved from Vancouver to NYC almost 25 years ago and, while I'll leave NY when we retire, it won't be to go back to Canada. I miss my family and the ease of outdoor activities, but I love the 'can do' spirit of the US. Canadians (in my view) seem perfectly content with mediocrity, which makes for a more relaxed lifestyle, but also (in my view) becomes kind of boring. Canards nice to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there again. [ Reply | More ]

This. We could move back to Europe, but there is something holding us back. It seems so "balanced" and not necessarily in a good way. If you consider yourself in the top 5% in the US (and not even financially, just in terms of ambition and drive) then you will, ironically, have a hard time in the "easier" lifestyle of Canada or Europe. I don't think it's the same at all. I think a fundamental difference is today is that people can get constant interaction with strangers online. Prior to the internet SAHMs couldn't get that.
