[ - ] s/o screwing up: I'm 45 and a doctor and I really screwed up. We go for weekends to the beach club and everyone is like "oh are you going to do yoga on the beach tomorrow." My DH thinks my job is easy and does not even like me because I am not "traditional" enough with cooking, cleaning, religion like his mother or all his friends wives who are SAHMs. I loved medicine but every job gets some drudgery I would love to be at the beach with my dc like these other lucky women. My mom had sweet SAHM life so I thought my career would be a supplement and not a total necessity and that I would go part time when kids were young. I f*ed that up. 14 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Most of his friends don't earn that much more but they don't live in NYC so they can afford SAHWs. I think I am compared to his SAHM who was a great cook and cleaned constantly and even make all the kids beds every morning after a "hot" breakfast. He doesn't like me because he thinks I am spoiled by a higher class childhood and I expect manners like sitting down at dinner. He also is resentful that we only had one child. I could never make him happy anyway. How did those wives on the beach do it? [ Reply | More ]

Exactly! My mom was strict and didn't give into us. Partly I think we didn't have the money TO give into our whims & partly I honestly think she was doing us a favor & teaching us to work towards what we wanted. We were constantly told "no" and when asked why it was "because we said so, we are the parents" and that was enough. It was frustrating when I was young but I respect the shit out of it now. The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers. -- Socrates (469–399 B.C.) [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] When male transgenders claim that they "feel like a woman" (“Feminine essence” theory), that is blatantly offensive to actual women, because it implies that there is some quantifiable or typical way that people with female genitalia think. And then when you press them and ask them exactly what “thinking like a woman” or what a “female brain” even IS, they never have any actual answer beyond the flimsiest of stereotypes. Wanting to play with dolls or dress femmy or feeling “nurturing” or thinking you’re more to the “verbal” side of the scale or whatever it is, or liking the feel soft fabrics ?! (that's a popular one). The truth is is that they get sexually turned on when they dress like a woman and people call them ma'am. 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Trans men are a different phenomenon. Women (I'm taking actual women) typically don't have sexual paraphilias the way men do. Sadly, most (I would venture to say very close to all) of the trans men are internally homophobic lesbians (sometimes butch sometimes not). This is something that is stirring up the lesbian community big time--losing so many of their members to transitioners, who then expect their girlfriends to turn straight. [ Reply | More ]

Try to put your feet up as much as possible. I had a box under my desk at work for that purpose. I also tried limiting salt intake but that didn't really do anything. Also, take your rings off before it becomes impossible. It sucks so much, and there's just not a ton you can do, unfortunately. I had hellacious edema from about 32 weeks on - basically as soon as the weather got hot. Hated it so much. Another tip - bring flip flops to the hospital (maybe even DH's). My feet were so swollen by then, plus the IVs, that I couldn't have worn any other shoes out. Everything went away by 6 weeks pp. [ Reply | More ]

32 weeks here! I felt like shit the first like 17 weeks, then felt MUCH better after. Some tips. Drink a ton of water. Eat healthy, don't get into the habit of eating shitty food & carbs ( I did that 1st trimester, gained weight quickly and felt very lethargic) and last but most important KEEP WORKING OUT. You don't have to go crazy, but try and keep up with your normal routine as much as possible. I'm still at the gym 3 -4 times a week and have just started taking out some exercises I used to do. I haven't been swollen at all, even in this heat! [ Reply | More ]

lucky, lucky you. i'm doing the second and part of the third trimester during the hottest parts of the year. I agree on the carbs -- maybe that's what's caused me to feel so lethargic and sluggish. I decided this weekend to cut out bread and dairy and limit salt to see if that helps with the edema. Also trying to focus on lean protein from here on out. We'll see if that works. Agree on the workouts, even though I feel like a slug. [ Reply | More ]

Trust me the first 17 weeks I was the worst. I ate bagels followed by pizza followed by cookies followed by soda. I have NEVER eaten so poorly in my life. But then I slowly started to feel better. I started by drinking more water and forcing myself to eat raw salads again. Fruit smoothies helped too b/c they were sweet but not bad like pizza and cookies. At first I just did prenatal yoga & pilates but quickly got bored with that & started back up with my normal gym routine. I think moving a lot in the AC gets the blood flow moving and helps with swelling, plus the fact I'm no longer eating like a goat helped too. Even if you just go and do like 15 minutes on an elliptical you will feel better, trust me! [ Reply | More ]
