[ - ] Be honest. With so many images and news about the Palestinian suffering in Gaza and Israel's bellicosity... Isn't it time for our politicians to move to a neutral position with Israel? Being the ONLY country in the world that supports Israel while the rest calls it a "terrorist state" that's "illegally occupying Palestine's territory" says something right there. I'm not happy about our politicians working for Israel and AIPAC instead of working for USA. Your take? 43 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Remember the fiasco of the Iraq war? well... AIPAC, Israel's lobby, pressured Washington for an invasion of Iraq from the get go. Mossad gave USA and UK fake WMD proof arguing: "Iraq is a real threat to Israel, USA has to act against it!". Now Israel through AIPAC is lobbying for USA to invade Iran. USA intel says that there's no proof of existence of nuclear weapons. But Mossad says for sure they have, so "Iran is the biggest threat that Israel ever faced" says Netanyahu and should be destroyed. Started taking biotin and silica about 3 weeks ago, no change yet in hair breakage/loss but my skin has become very oily in the past week. I read on line that biotin can cause breakouts. You should check with your doctor. If it's androgenic alopecia (which it usually is, if your mother had it, too), you will need something that blocks the androgen receptors in the hair follicle. Which means you will likely need Rogaine, but you might be able to try something like Tagamet, first. Just know that anything you take internally will affect all hair follicles, on your whole body, while the topicals only affect the hair loss where you apply them. [ Reply | More ]

Yes. Also, the sooner, the better. If it's AA, the damage is done over time, so if you catch it early, you can reverse it, but follicles that are let go for a long time can usually not be saved. [ Reply | More ]

Unfortunately, that's life unless you live on acreage. A few years ago, we completely reconfigured our back yard and rebuilt the patio, and the contractor was jackhammering for an entire day. Fortunately, our closest neighbors were doing similarly major work at the same time - same contractor, we coordinated. The dirt excavated for their pool was used to terrace our yard. But I'm sure the noise bothered the other neighbors, just as their occasional noise has bothered us. I like living in a somewhat densely populated area (1/4 to 1/2 acre lots) so hearing other people's noise comes with the territory. [ Reply | More ]

Very different schools - size, vibe, focus, location. Visit both with your DC, think of what your DC wants. You may dismiss one just based on the visit alone, which is what happened when DC and I went to Stuy open house. The selling point of Bard is getting assoc. degree, but there are two problems with that: 1. nobody who attends thinks of it as an accomplishment as all students are heading to 4-yr colleges; 2. very few colleges accept these credits, and you still have to take 4 years worth of college no matter where you go, unless you go to Bard. Other than that, Queens is slightly more sciencey, Manhattan is slightly more humanities. [ Reply | More ]

As far as I'm concerned, it's to have a small, secret stash ($5,000?) before I ask him what's up, so if it's something serious, or (worst case) he clears our accounts before I know what's happening, I won't be blindsided with $200 in my wallet. [ Reply | More ]

^^^ selling is also a fine option if buying in cash would look suspicious or if she feels uncomfortable returning something she's worn, but if they have enough money to justify her spending like this on clothes for herself, she could put away a couple thousand dollars a month this way. Selling used things of the dcs (and saying she donated them) could also bring in some extra cash. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Is there a point where you think women look kind of stupid dressed in trendy clothes? I am turning 40 soon and dress trendier than I did 10 years ago. I worked in big law then, had a pretty conservative wardrobe of Theory and BR, now I live in Brooklyn and shop at Madewell, Zara and H&M. Everything I try from stores aimed at my age (Boden etc) makes me look so frumpy. Just wondering if there is a point that I need to grow up and start wearing clothes that I won't see on a teenager. 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I've always felt women over 30-40 should be demonstrating style, not following trends. By our age, we shouldn't need stores & magazines to tell us what's "trendy" or "in style", we should have cultivated our own personal style and just know we look our best. [ Reply | More ]

the only caveat i think are things that are too girly. my mom, who is very youthful and in great shape, when she hit around 50, i remember her saying "that sundress is just a little young" - there was nothing per se wrong with it, but i get where she was coming from. now that i am in my 40s, i see it too. but that's not really a trendy thing. although there are certain trends that i think are best left to the under 25 set, but those are few.
