Engagement parties are usually thrown so they can invite people that they aren't inviting to the wedding. You don't need to bring a gift. Gifts are for weddings only. Usually the engagement party invite says "no gifts" [ Reply | More ]

Change in Selection System Mr. Obama was elected after a meeting of the review's 80 editors that convened Sunday and lasted until early this morning, a participant said. Until the 1970's the editors were picked on the basis of grades, and the president of the Law Review was the student with the highest academic rank. Among these were Elliot L. Richardson, the former Attorney General, and Irwin Griswold, a dean of the Harvard Law School and Solicitor General under Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard M. Nixon. That system came under attack in the 1970's and was replaced by a program in which about half the editors are chosen for their grades and the other half are chosen by fellow students after a special writing competition. The new system, disputed when it began, was meant to help insure that minority students became editors of The Law Review. Harvard, like a number of other top law schools, no longer ranks its law students for any purpose including a guide to recruiters. [ Reply | More ]

The first sentence re election was for the position as president of the law review. This is different than the selection of editors. We do not know by which method he was selected to be an editor (grades vs. writing competition). However, having sat through the endless meeting to elect a president of the law review, I can assure you that the editors must have thought he was intelligent and would be a good president. There are so many editors vying for the position that no one is just giving it away. [ Reply | More ]

OBAMA HAS PUBLISHED NOTHING AT HARVARD YET HE WAS THE PRESIDENT OF THE HARVARD LAW REVIEW AND WORKED AS AN “EDITOR IN CHIEF” 50 HOURS A WEEK? Obama was chosen because of affirmative action and because he was a “minority student”. Obama was not chosen because of any published writing skill. No published work equals ZERO proof obama is a “skilled writer”. Obama seems to have had affirmative action help but there is NO evidence he EVER QUALIFIED for any help through his WRITING SKILLS! Obama ONLY qualifed because he was a MINORITY! This is why there is no record of any published works from obama while he was the “president” of the Harvard law review. [ Reply | More ]

My child goes there and I am happy to answer any questions you may have. I'm sure there are people that are extremely wealthy but in my experience (putting 3 kids through), it is definitely NOT the norm. There are SUCH a wide range of people. Many more WOHMs than I expected (I'm one too), but all of the moms I've met through volunteer or my child are so nice. I've gone to playdates in everywhere from a 1 bedroom house to a 7 bedroom townhouse and you wouldn't know by the way the moms or dads act. School is wonderful. Seriously, all three kids were completely different after the first week. They LOVE school. Exmissions are great. PSD really worked with us and we have a daughter at Chapin and a son at Collegiate. Read Ferber, read Weissbluth and figure out a plan. Has your DC shown any ability to sleep through night? I was lucky - both DCs started sleeping through night around 2 1/2 to 4 months. Granted the night was 10-5:30, but eventually got 7 to 5:30, then 7-7. I used a combo of Ferber and Weissbluth. The former when there was backsliding by DC #2 following illnesses and the latter to stretch the wake up time to 7 AM. [ Reply | More ]

You're dealing with people here who are devastated because the moms at preschool aren't nice to them. You make the call. [ Reply | More ]

+1 I agree with OP there are indeed some of us who married with out a prenuptial agreement and over the course of the marriage dh starts making the big bucks. I make 275k and that's after 15 years in the same position. Dh made between 2.5mm and 3 mm last year, including bonuses. When we married 12 years ago I made 60k and dh made around 47k. I knew he had potential but honestly it took several company changes and 4 promotions for him to get to this point and neither of us expected to ever be this financially blessed. He is a brilliant man in almost every aspect except picking up his clothes after showering or changing and he lacks common sense often. He is always losing his keys, phones, wallets and just basic everyday things. He asked me a few days ago if "twerking" meant pulling your underware out of your butt crack when it is wedged in there. No you don't. No one needs a tanning bed. Don't come on here in a few years asking how to fix your UV-damaged skin. [ Reply | More ]

Omg. Why do I need to educate you from scratch? UV light is actually good for this skin in very small doses. Especially in winter. The Vitamin D is good for the skin, and the light re-balances serotonin in the brain, thereby lifting your mood. [ Reply | More ]
