[ - ] Wife waited until I was asleep to coordinate with a friend the removal of my kids out of their beds in pajamas along with herself from our home. I discovered this about 30 minutes after she left, called police, filed missing person's report, etc. Lawyer'ed up by 9am the next morning, etc. Wife won't let me see kids, she pulled them from private school, did not take them to their pediatrics appt, music lessons, etc. Next day my Lawyer receives electronically her Divorce Complaint from her lawyer: Reason? per the complaint "we have become incompatible and it's such a breakdown it can't be repaired." Okay, fine, I don't disagree and accepted this eventuality long ago. But why take the kids? And do it all in the manner she did? Nothing in her complaint says anything negative about me, kids are not even mentioned. I've never as much as cursed at my wife. Kids have never been spanked. Her lawyer tells mine it's that we "bicker"...simple and plain, per the complaint. The sadness, sorrow, the pain I feel about not seeing or talking to my children is something I wish upon no one. It's been 4 days now. Yes I've filed the emergency court orders etc, it's a backlog, there is a process. I'm not even mad at her. She had a horric traumatic experience before I met her and has by her choice lived untreated. No issue of betrayal, alcohol/drugs, abuse in any form, irresponsibility of any kind, it's that we "bicker". She's been resistent to marriage counseling every time. I suspect many divorces come down to mental illness, just not recorded so in the documents. 18 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Disproportionate responses have been increasing. I don't want to get into her trauma...but her ptsd has been peaking....all very sad. i don't even want to divorce her, i love her and all that comes with her. i have begged her from the start to speak to someone (treatment). people have to want to. the % of women that don't seek treatment from this particular trauma is significant, it's not unusual. she's gone to marriage counseling with me (agreed to twice, only for 3 visits each time). i am not allowed to speak to or bring up her trauma. therapist will cut me off, it's gotta be her, she's the one to bring it forward (in a marriage counseling session/context). She's highly functional in her profession, very well educated, she's had a few break down moments wherein she acknowledged her pain, plus i live with her and see the ptsd all the time at night whcn she's subconscious in sleep. NP: hah, you think this, but I was distraught when I found out my DH had run up a balance without ny knowing (and a big one - more than $20k, which is a lot for us), and the number of people who told me that was nothing compared to their consumer debt totally floored me. I am talking people you would think are smart, financially responsible etc. Turns out lots of people carry a balance and think nothing of it (agree with you it's dumb to). [ Reply | More ]

PP: I have been trying to dig us out of the mess dh got us into with that debt. Transfered some to a 0% interest card etc., but when I see how much we pay in interest each month, I feel knots of anxiety and anger. I have no idea how people do this as an ongoing deliberate thing! [ Reply | More ]
