[ - ] My 36yo SIL (married to DH's brother) does not understand that not everyone's parents fund their lifestyle. She think it's a given that if a family lives in a city with limited or mediocre public school options, why wouldn't they send their DCs to private - it's a given that the grandparents would pay for it. She's pretty insufferable with her entitled attitude, but I sort of blame her parents for instilling these expectations in her and continuing to do so. 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] On a subject of playdates... I WOHM and not included in a circle of moms at my dd's 1st grade class. She is occasionally invited to birthday parties, but never to playdates this year. Last year, she was invited a couple of times when the other dc's mom picked my dd up from school and took her to their home to play until dh picked her up at 6. I can't reciprocate that, so I invited them to go to playground or children's museum with us instead. This year: no invites. Dd has 2 extracurricular activities per week, and we also drop her off at the gym's play zone for one hour on the weekend where she plays with other kids. Several of the most well liked kids in my DD's elementary did not go on playdates because of the Mom working or other moms not wanting to hang out with the nanny. It gets easier as they are older and all you need is someone to be in the house with them.Maybe your Dad would be comfortable taking a playdate home from school. I wouldn't worry at all. It is always a little harder for working moms socially but their kids are always the most well adjusted/independent later on. From a SAHM who had lots of friends with WOHM. [ Reply | More ]

0. Maybe its a medical condition she isnt comfortable sharing. If the job doesnt require physical tasks, I wouldnt care. FWIW, my firm has such a woman like this. She is only 37 yrs old, 5'1 and about 285 lbs, with a bad case of edema on her ankles (she walks with a cane sometimes). However she is one of the best employees at my job and puts out very good work product. [ Reply | More ]

That is a HUGE weight (sorry if it is offensive to say that)...someone that large would definitely have current health problems (I'm guessing) not just future ones. So I would say it would not be helpful, assuming there were other well qualified candidates. [ Reply | More ]

How can you possibly assume that every obese person has health problems? You are discriminating right away. There are plenty of thin people with issues. [ Reply | More ]

I assumed it because the weight given is so high..even if she was 5'10", that is still 200+ above what would be considered a healthy weight so I would think it is very likely she has health problems. [ Reply | More ]

^^^and as for your logic, of course a thin person could have health problems, but would be very unlikely if they were young etc.. Not the case for this lady. [ Reply | More ]

It is an assumption and might not be true. Personally, I hire the best person for the job. I've never regretted any hires and have always had a well-functioning, happy, productive team. It's often been a diverse group, but that might be why we have been so effective. [ Reply | More ]

I am pretty overweight but 475pds unless she was 6 feet tall, is physically limiting. It is also sign of a person who has an emotional coping issue. There is no way someone at 475 does not have some health issues. You are right that you have no idea what health issues a thinner person has but they are not apparent and you are asking if it would impact on your hiring her. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Sahm here. Sil just told me she'd "be bored to death" if she were a stay at home mom. She works one 1/2 day per week. I answered that I'd be bored to death if I worked 4 hours a week and had full time help... I am always so nice, let everything roll off my back, in 12 years this is the first response I've ever given that was less than killing her with kindness and it feels GREAT :) 14 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Just make sure you have plenty of space on your phone for pictures. The most important part of running a marathon is taking all the pictures of training to document it on social media. [ Reply | More ]

I think when the Republic of Ireland was founded, nearly all the wealthiest people living there were Protestant. Then over the following 80 years most of the Protestant people left. Was the property of the Protestants kind of stolen so they left with pennies on the dollar, or were the Protestants able to sell for top dollar and leave with most of their wealth? [ Reply | More ]

The guiness family which owns the famous beer based in Dublin is Protestant. My understanding is that in Dublin the police protected wealthy protestants from violence at the hands of the Catholics, but that in the countryside, many Catholics led pogroms to kick the Protestants out. [ Reply | More ]

First of all, I have no personal stake in any of this, But my understanding is that in many other parts of Europe one group of Christians forced the other group to convert. So when the Catholics conquered France, they forced all the Protestants to become catholic or leave. As a result all the Christians in France are Catholic. Why didn't the protestants in Ireland force all the Irish to become Protestant? wouldn't that have eventually solved the problem [ Reply | More ]
