The thing which has surprised me most is that it gets harder as kids get older. It feels like more is at stake and as a parent it is harder to control. Infants are exhausting, toddlers are demanding, early school years have some challenges but I now have middle schoolers and it is without a doubt the most difficult parenting time (for me, in my opinion). Wouldn't trade it but nobody can ever fully explain how life-changing (I know, cliche) becoming a mom is. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] It's annoying that we are arguing SAHM vs WOHM. It's important that there are BOTH men and women in the workplace and in the home. Neither is a gender role. Everybody should be looking to both contribute at home and also contribute to society as a whole. How you do that is up to you but there is no one right way. Both men and women can raise children, have a job and also have leisure time. Women's sole job in life isn't to "raise children" Men's sole job in life isn't to "provide for the family". The more that we share these jobs, the happier we will be. 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

This is true in some fields, not all. My wife makes a lot more than I do, as a physician, but she has very low pressure. She's in a field that is in demand, she gets dozens of unsolicited offers from head hunters every year, people just mail shit to our house that says "come work for us! We'll pay you to move!" She goes in a 9, gets home at 5:30, except for Thursday when she goes in for two hours of her choice. If you're making a million and a half dollars as a oil and gas trader, or running your own consulting firm, yes, its constant pressure. But not all jobs are like that. [ Reply | More ]

Why did you throw it? What a great example. If she breaks her toys throw them in the garbage and do not replace them, acting like a child is not the way to go. [ Reply | More ]

I lost it. I have her so many lectures about why we take care of our things, that there are kids in need, and that we don't buy new toys just because we break our old toys. [ Reply | More ]

That's ridiculous. She's 4. Stop lecturing. Just next time throw away the toy and stop replacing. Also if you are so worried about spoiling her, try to buy fewer toys in general. [ Reply | More ]

I know. I don't buy her a lot of toys. Just Cmas and bday. Small things for easter, stuff in a basket. I Don't want her growing up and not valuing things. [ Reply | More ]

She'll learn to value things over time. She's just 4. When she gets older, you can give her an allowance, make sure she is in charge of buying some of her own things. There's a lot of things you can do. Don't sweat it yet - she's too young to grasp it. [ Reply | More ]

You need to let go. Buy cheaper/secondhand toys so you don't feel like you're wasting money, only buy toys for birthdays and special occasions, and don't replace or throw away broken toys - let her continue to play with them. [ Reply | More ]

Thx. Its about the money and respect. I'm upset that she doesn't care about her things. We don't buy her toys outside of her bday and xMas. I do buy her clothes more often obviously because she's growing. But I'm flabbergasted that she's acting so spoiled. [ Reply | More ]

She's 4 - she is only just starting to develop the parts of her brain that help her realize she is not the center of the universe and that other people are people, like her, with feelings and thoughts and things to do besides cater to her every whim. Don't spoil her, and don't overreact, and over the next year or two she'll mature a lot. [ Reply | More ]

Breathe in, breathe out. I broke all of my toys, on purpose, my whole childhood. I cut my dolls' hair, popped their heads off, crashed cars & trucks into walls & each other, broke things open to see what was inside. Then I lived with the consequences: broken toys. Life went on. [ Reply | More ]

I hear you but next time just throw it away. My son now understands that mommy does not play around when she tells you to pick up your toys. [ Reply | More ]

As long as you did not throw it at her, you're fine. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Need suggestions for a new pair(s) of jeans. Ankle length with higher rise. Body issues: on the petite side with shorter legs than torso. I strive to balance this out so it's not obvious. TIA! 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I have the same body type and have found that this exact style of jeans looks best on me. Now if I can just wean myself off from wearing flats and do at least a 2-inch heel everyday I should be good. [ Reply | More ]

Do you have a favorite brand? I want to burn all of my (several pairs) boot cut long jeans that must be worn with heels. I think that look has run its course. I want jeans that I can wear with flats or trainers daytime and Manolos at night if I choose. [ Reply | More ]
