I wouldn't say unhappy, but I had higher expectations for ours, I guess. My DS is also at a his FC, at a well know MS, and the school does have a great curriculum, but has two teachers who are bit unhinged and ds dreads these classes...Although happy with the school overall. Funny, they don't show these classrooms on the tour, only the happy, sunny teachers. [ Reply | More ]

I agree with you. It makes perfect sense that if a kid has attended a very solid school K-5 and done well, then they will have fewer gaps when they get to MS. The trick is to keep the rigor up through all grades as long as the school is a good fit for the child. [ Reply | More ]

I don't wear makeup to work and I shower before bed usually, because I am quite unmotivated in the mornings. It's called being tired, and not feeling like spending the next 9 hours in a cubicle. If I had a big shot of caffeine at 7am and then needed to start getting ready for work at 745, I'd probably be a lot more chipper about it. But when my alarm goes off at 7am to try to accomplish that very thing, I just hit snooze. I don't think I have a disorder at all. [ Reply | More ]

Bring food. The idea is to assist the family in their mourning by obviating the need for them to prepare food. Flowers and wine do not accomplish this. Shiva is not a party. [ Reply | More ]

OP here: Well I know that they are catering the food because they are kosher which was another reason why I thought I shouldn't delve into the food arena. I guess I could go and get bagels? Does that sound crazy? [ Reply | More ]

you don't have to bring anything. you can make a donation to charity in honor of the deceased. [ Reply | More ]

No flowers. Food is better than wine. Don't worry about about being redundant. I remember when a close relative died how many bagels seemed to be pouring into the house. But in the end, everything was eaten and appreciated. [ Reply | More ]

Wow, I posted this to NYC because I figured anyone from here would know. It's like a wake except it's at the deceased's home, there's no dead body and a lot more food. [ Reply | More ]

Some kind of multi-armed Hindu goddess. If she was demanding wine from me, I'd probably find a way to get her some. [ Reply | More ]

A bottle of wine is fine, as is food, preferably something sweet to take away some of the bitterness of the world. [ Reply | More ]

I would bring cookies from a kosher bakery. It's ok if it is redundant. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Do you ever feel like you are not as "present" when on UB a lot. I feel like I ignore my family some and lose out on opportunities to do other interesting things, like say read a book. Going to try to go screen free this weekend. 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] S/O the most popular thread about small DS. One thing you might want to explore is the amount of QUALITY SLEEP he gets. My DS appeared to be getting "enough" sleep in terms of hours asleep BUT it turns out he had severe sleep apnea due to enlarged tonsils and adenoids. We had them removed and it made a huge difference in his growth curve. Before the T+A removal he was sort of skinny and short (and in hindsight sickly looking with dark circles and fatigue). After the removal he shot up several inches in 6 months, gained weight (to look totally healthy, not chubby) and just physically looks different/better/healthier. Worth checking IMHO! 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]
