[ - ] worried. Acid symptoms that started in early August (mainly heaviness in upper stomach after eating, slight nausea) we just moved to a new city so I could only get to see a nurse who recommended Prilosec. I took the OTC for 4 weeks. Towards the end I would still get a slight hunger pang not many other symptoms, but really thought this is strange - as if I am hungry, empty stomach, even if that's not really the case... Cannot find a good gastroenterologist, just worried and really hope this is not an ulcer. I would really like to avoid an endoscopy, but not sure what to thing. I finished Prilosec a few days ago, was doing OK but today I had discomfort pretty much all day (and now) 46 and in good general health... I was just wondering if any mom had experienced this and had feedback. Thanks 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I have had acid reflux for a few years (41yo now). I took medicine but then it gave me iron deficiency so they cut down medicine because medicine kept me from absorbing iron etc etc circle. In any case during this time when my medicine was lessened I developed a few ulcers. They have since reversed. I took Prilosec 2x day and took some chalky drink before I ate to coat my stomache. I think eating certain foods resulted in the ulcers. Avoid acidic foods - tomatoes, oranges, tomato sauce, anything spicy). When I ate these foods I would feel nauseous in my throat but mostly I'd wake up with a burning in my throat. [ Reply | More ]

Any dark colored stools? If so, I'd worry about a bleeding ulcer and you should be seen urgently/emergently. Otherwise if you want to avoid endoscopy you could have an H.Pylori test done (stool or blood) and if present then you will take antibiotics to destroy this ulcer-causing bacteria and possibly avoid a diagnostic EGD. If they find an ulcer on endoscopy you will have to take PPI (prilosec) 6-8 weeks. Keep a food diary and try to align symptoms with what you eat. Avoid NSAIDS (advil, motrin); avoid tomatoes, alcohol, coffee or any triggers you can identify for yourself. Any new medications? I'd worry about steroids which can cause ulcers, also doxycyline (a common antibiotic) can cause pill-esophagitis. -M.D. but not a gastroenterologist. I see ulcers/GERD everyday however. the case is crazy but this isn't true. the grand jury indictment for their parents was for being an accessory to murder/other crimes. the gist of it was that somehow they "helped," either by not preventing it from happening or by covering it up. it's more complicated than you present it. and the sexual abuse piece of it is really controversial - there's not a consensus on that. According to an indictment obtained by the Denver Post, “On or between December 25, and December 26, 1996, in Boulder County, Colorado, John Bennett Ramsey did unlawfully, knowingly, recklessly and feloniously permit a child to be unreasonably placed in a situation which posed a threat of injury to the child’s life or health, which resulted in the death of JonBenet Ramsey, a child under the age of sixteen.” Documents go on to say, “John Bennet Ramsey did unlawfully, knowingly and feloniously render assistance to a person, with intent to hinder, delay and prevent the discovery, detention, apprehension, prosecution, conviction and punishment of such person for the commission of a crime, knowing the person being assisted has committed and was suspected of the crime of Murder in the First Degree and Child Abuse Resulting in Death.” As for Patricia Ramsey, court documents say, “On or between December 25, and December 26, 1996, in Boulder County, Colorado, Patricia Paugh Ramsey did unlawfully, knowingly, recklessly and feloniously permit a child to be unreasonably placed in a situation which posed a threat of injury to the child’s life or health, which resulted in the death of JonBenet Ramsey, a child under the age of sixteen.” Documents continue with, “On or about December 25, and December 26, 1996 in Boulder County, Colorado, Patricia Paugh Ramsey did unlawfully, knowingly and feloniously render assistance to a person, with intent to hinder, delay and prevent the discovery, detention, apprehension, prosecution, conviction and punishment of such person for the commission of a crime, knowing the person being assisted has committed and was suspected of the crime of Murder in the First Degree and Child Abuse Resulting in Death.” [ Reply | More ]
