Joke was on her, though, because he had wealthy, connected parents and they dragged out her past and ended up getting majority custody. 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

At a recent friend's wedding, the best man learned the night before the wedding that the bride and her brother used to perform oral sex on one another when they were children. I havent gone through the K process in 15 years- moms who have been through it recently, is this still valid advice: It's easy to avoid being forced out if you 1) live in-zone for a school where you can live with sending your kid and 2) apply broadly to many schools, not just the handful UB deems acceptable. 11 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Yes. Also, try for other alternatives that don't require much up front investment, just so she has other options that she might consider even if she ultimately decides to do something else. Sign up for g&t test (one hour of time investment to take the test), sign up for Hunter test (I think it was $300 and one hour to take the test), and sign up for charter school lottery (Success Academy). This way she can tour, talk to other parents and see what else is out there. It's worth it to investigate and turn over all stones before she makes the decision to leave the city. [ Reply | More ]

I don't disagree with your recommendations but she should still be realistic about the odds for each optionz and ultimately, the best strategy is still to live in a decent school zone where the local school is an option she'd be at peace with. The others are alternative scenarios, but I think today counting on Hunter or g&t or even a Charter is risky. [ Reply | More ]

Op. None of the above are me. I think PP has good points, but I didn't read your recommendation as "Oh and Hunter and G&T are easy peasy options". I think all 3 of us are agreeing here that if she doesn't want the suburbs, she can avoid them by broadening her options. [ Reply | More ]

Thank you. She's concerned about the "mass exodus". When we went through it, the only people who were "forced" out were the ones who weren't that committed to staying in the city- they wanted one of three or four schools and if they didn't get in, they were out. [ Reply | More ]

Just a Jehovah's witness who used to show up with her young daughter. I took their watchtower magazine and said I'd look at it, and I guess that was the wrong thing to do, because they started showing up more frequently. One particular morning I got caught up in a last-minute emergency and I was rushing in and out of the shower when the front door rang, I used the intercom to ask who it was, and there they were again. I just had it at that point and said, "sorry, thank you but I'm no longer interested in your literature." Then I clicked off. They never came back. [ Reply | More ]
