First, private may have better placement because they may have more legacies. Don't assume it is the school. I do know kids with great SATs from the schools you are talking about that did not make Ivy. I do think that Brunswick and Hackley are excellent, RCDS has repuation of just being a rich kids school, dont know if still true. [ Reply | More ]

Montclair and Larchmont weaker schools. Larchmont combines with Mamaroneck with less driven student body. Scarsdale too annoying with lots of horrible people. Look at Edgemont or Rye for a bit more balance. [ Reply | More ]

I agree. Visit Montclair High school and view the diversity and decide for yourself. Some moms love the diversity some feel creeped out and terrified by it [ Reply | More ]

np. Montclair diversity is nothing like that of NYC. Moms may feel "creeped out" by seeing so many AA, but 80-90% of the AA students come from middle class and UMC homes! It is not the same thing as the projects or poor sections of EO or Newark. Not at all, but some people get confuse color with something else. [ Reply | More ]

Interesting, Edgemont's dark skinned people are mostly South Asian. They do not seem to make trouble for anyone. [ Reply | More ]

Scarsdale has taken steps to forbid poor people and in particular to forbid poor racial groups from living in Scarsdale. Many moms do not like this. Choose for yourself [ Reply | More ]

The city passed rules prohibiting the construction of multi family housing. This effectively means no poor can ever move to Scarsdale. [ Reply | More ]
