[ - ] Want to hear about my night with DH's siblings? The parents had set up a fancy dinner. The 20-something girls showed up in pilled 70s sweaters all speak with vocal fry (I'm soooooo hunnnnnnnngover, riiiiiiiiiight). The boys all have shaved heads and handlebar mustaches with waxed tips. Their 50-something parents (DH's siblings) all run kooky fake businesses or non profits that cease operations without notice, in the middle of the night. The boyfriends/girlfriends of the 20-somethings are all 'chefs' who 'loathed' the very expensive Manhattan restaurant last night (famous chef, so clearly it was too stodgy). The only "authentic' thing, apparently, was the crap cake they brought to the restaurant that they "sourced" from "an authentic grandmother" at a "bake shop" in Brooklyn. Can someone please kill me? Immediately? 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] My boyfriend is a wonderful, hard-working, honest, successful, loyal, sweet, man who loves me and I love him. But the deep intellectual connection just isn't the same as it was with my college boyfriend who is now a poet and drives a taxi on the side. I still love my ex bf in a way that I think I always will, but he just isn't father material. He also used to do a ton of drugs, so that's worrisome. Anyway things with my new boyfriend are going well and I think he will propose soon. My question is how normal is it to still fantasize about past guys and long for the things they gave you that your current boyfriend doesn't? I mean I know you can't get everything from one person, but I hate to go into a marriage feeling like that. Is that just something people learn to cope with over time? I know it's highly unlikely that I will find a successful poet to marry and have kids with. That kind of mental and creative stimulation just doesn't go along with the stability I seek in a long term partner and father of my future kids. But I can't help but fantasize about those long talks into the night about literature and human nature sometimes when my boyfriend is watching a football game. Advice? 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Listen sweetie. Marriage is for making babies. Have romance and sex until about 8 years before you want to pop out your first kid, then start looking for marriage material: honest, sweet, successful, loyal. Once you marry someone they will never be 100 percent everything you need. Then you start making tons of women friends for the rest. [ Reply | More ]

Hmm. That's a hard one. I got everything I wanted from one person and married him, but I am decidedly unstimulated by creative, drug taking artists. I agree that you can't marry that type of person, but I also don't think you can have a successful marriage to someone with whom you are compromising. It's not fair to your DH. To answer your other question, I only look back and thank god I never married any of my exes. Never fantasize. That would seriously bum me out if I had to do that. [ Reply | More ]

If your ancestors where from Eastern Europe, you are ashkenazi. If there were from the middle east, you are sephardic. Most US Jews are ashkenazi. The number of Ethiopian Jews in the US is so tiny as to be effectively zero. You'll never meet one. When the first temple was destroyed exactly 2,600 years ago, most Jews relocated to Baghdad. The Jews that decided to stay in Baghdad for the next two thousand years or so are the Mizrahi. Mizrahi Jews never lived in Europe... Genetically they mixed a little with their Arab neighbors. Mizrahi Jews are thus genetically close to Arabs while Ashkenazi Jews are genetically close to white Christian Europeans. Is this now clear? [ Reply | More ]
