Her parents did not immediately realize what had happened after the automatic machine gun recoiled in the girl’s hands, shooting wildly on the morning of Aug. 25. The couple, visiting a recreational shooting range on a family vacation, rushed over to comfort their daughter as she complained that “the gun was too much for her and it hurt her shoulder,” according to new details of the shooting released by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office. The father “stated his family is in shock and just wants to leave the area and go back to Las Vegas,” one of the deputies said in the police report. op - The emotional part of me SO wants these parents' names released - except I know it would hurt the little girl most in the long run because then she could be IDed, so I hope they don't get released. (The article says the parents' names weren't blocked out, though, so it's only a matter of time. I have a feeling the police thought the parents were assholes, too.) [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] School bus drama. I posted before about this and today is the first day of school. The bus was a little chaotic as expected since it's the first day. The kids waited in the hot bus for 30 minutes before leaving. dd complained and threw a big tantrum when she got home. She rejected all of my suggestions such as headphones to listen to music/books. She doesn't want me to ask her father to pick up since she doesn't like the cigarette smell of his car. I called her selfish because her attitude is basically I am the only viable solution. She said she's already taking the bus and it's unfair for me to call her selfish. She said she have a headache from the bus and told me she will be in a bad mood as long as she has to take the bus. I used to spend 2.5 hours a day commuting to her school. This year it will be 3 hours a day if I have to chauffeur her. I am mad because she makes it sounds like this is a huge favor to me (taking the bus) while every kid in her class takes the bus. I understand it's not as comfortable but this huge tantrum is ridiculous. 21 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

OP: That's actually what I try to explain to her. I can't satisfy all of her needs but I try my best. I can't believe she is treating me like dirt after one day of school bus one way. I mean, does she think I enjoy driving 2.5 hours a day? Of course not. I do it because I love her. But I can't possibly do it this year unless I quit my job. [ Reply | More ]

OP: dd is 10. No, used to be about 30 minutes one way if I drive. After school it takes a little longer. For her, it's 30 minutes one way. I work from home so for me, it's 30 minutes x 4 plus the extra pick up time. This year, the school moves to a temporary location and it's 40 minutes one way. If I drive both ways, it will be 40 minutes x 4 plus. So I drive in the morning and she takes the bus after school. [ Reply | More ]

Understandable. You and maybe the other parents should get together and complain about the 30 minute wait in the bus. OP: They called and apologized. There was some confusion from a clueless parent. But being first day, there are new kids that do not know the bus number well so it's kind of expected. It can only get better but she's exaggerating everything. She said the kids are mean and if she tells them off, they will hit her. So I asked if anyone hits her? She said they will. I don't have a nanny and DH is out of town so I have no choice. My child is a younger sibling and has been in full day school already so doesn't need it (even though I know some kids do). I also had to take vacation days today and tomorrow as there were no camp options. My boss is understanding but I know it is annoying. I feel like it's making my home impossible to manage. 18 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

She's elderly, I spent years asking her not to, but by being kind.. please, I will do it, please, you relax.. please I prefer you don't do my washing, I feel bad when you do it, but she pushes on. She comes here two days a week to care for DS4.. but she's meant to take him away, but she ends up staying for an hour while I seethe and can't get any work done anyway as I'm so distracted by what she's doing and by DS who is watching TV. She then pops in almost every other day to do housework, but it's not helpful, she wipes bench around things, so it's not done, stuff like that. You just motivated me though. Twenty mins ago I moved to my bedroom to try to focus but she came in to put clothes away. Just now she came in to ask something and I said "honestly, I dont' start work until you leave, so I'd rather you just take DS if that's ok.". I feel so bad, she's so lovely. But now again there are piles of clothes around the house, on end of my bed for example. Seems I could just put them away but I want to do it when it suits me, not because now if I don't do it they will fall on floor when DH gets into bed. [ Reply | More ]

np: spanish slang is really localized, more so than english. it varies a lot even by city in the same country. It's because they are not as geographically mobile as people in other countries and have intense rivalries with other spanish-speaking locales. e.g., everyone thinks cojones is spanish for balls, it's actually just mexican spanish. south americans use totally different words. so asking where they say pedo is a valid question. [ - ] My DD is going to her preschool tomorrow to meet her teachers for 30 mins. My DH and I are going with her. Can my nanny come with us? It would mean a lot to her. 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I don't see the problem with it. Nanny will be doing pick ups/drop offs and I imagine it would be good for the teachers to know who she is. Just make sure the room won't be too packed, though. [ Reply | More ]

It depends on the school. She may be allowed to go to the school but not in the classroom. [ Reply | More ]

I think the prior poster was saying the RULES are rude and classist, not the poster who alluded to the rules. "Rude and classist" might be a bit harsh, but I think it would be better to let the nanny participate, if that's what the parent prefers. [ Reply | More ]

She will be allowed but will likely be the only one. Have her come in, meet the teacher if they are greeting at the door and then wait outside. (She would likely rather do this too) [ Reply | More ]

She probably won't be allowed, simply because there is not a lot of space to begin with. Only parents are usually invited. [ Reply | More ]

How old is your dc and what kinds of issues does he/she have? Has a specific type of therapy been recommended. It's great that you are getting help for your dc, OP. [ Reply | More ]

OP: she just turned 6 years old. I need someone to talk to her about some emotional issues she has and to have an outlet to talk to someone, or to have someone to help me deal with her problems so I'm better at helping her. I hope that makes sense- I don't know what field of psychology this is even called. Any help is very much appreciated. [ Reply | More ]

Pp (From below asking what primary problem is). If it's a general thing, try Child Mind. They will do an initial intake and make sure they pair her up with the right therapist - they have a range of folks. [ Reply | More ]
