I would never post that when you are seeing a doctor and have been trying but I actually did get pregnant with Clear blue at 41 on the first real timed try. We were shocked. In some ways we wish we hadn't because as older people it was pretty much our last shot and were hoping for twins with IVF. Then after hard pregnancy and c-section we did not try for # 2 partially because the pregnancy complication made it risky to do to soon and by the time I gave birth I was 42 so to safely try again I would be 43. [ - ] I have 2 DCs under the age of 5. Took two 3-month maternity leaves, and it just occurred to me that despite glowing performance reviews and hard work (have not slowed down since having DCs), I have not advanced at all in my career - no promotion in sight. I am disappointed in myself, but it seems as though I should slow it down, dial it back as they say, work smarter, not be so reliable/available, and not give as much of a shit as I have. This situation really frustrates me, especially when I hear about moms who actually do have flexibility at work (such as 3-day schedules) and manage to get promoted. 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I hear you. I imploded a little bit about 2 months after coming back after DC2 (major deadline + many feedings = waaaay too little sleep) and got a little more strategic of necessity. I try to remind myself that my ability to crank out high quality work quickly and without supervision (sr. associate at a boutique law firm) is very, very valuable to them and to present myself as exactly that--a very important part of the firm's team. I'm not expressing this well, but reminding myself just how much value I provide at this particular moment helps me to walk into meetings, etc., with the expectation that I'm important, appreciated, etc. And that expectation goes a long way to being treated the same way. if your dd wants to play with her kid, then I would try again to arrange a play date. if you feel like the issue really is that your new pad is too nice (seems sort of ludicrous... but stranger things have happened!), then you might try meeting them in the park or at a public space where she can set her ego aside. Yikes. I hate spiders, totally sympathetic here. At least they're not brown recluses like I once had in a house, though ;) Not sure, but sealing things up should help-caulk, maybe new doors or windows? I'd have a company come spray for bugs and spiders. Ask them for advice, have them come regularly until things are under control, then you can take a break and see if you don't need them anymore. I don't think that this is super normal but I don't think it is a huge problem. Playdates can help little ones build friendships but they are not necessary. And take the pressure off yourself - it is not a popularity contest for you, as much as it may feel like it. Ask the teacher who your DD plays with the most and invite that child over. Take the plunge. [ Reply | More ]

OP-- I've asked her teacher and her class is super small (only 8 kids.) I've sent emails around to the parents introducing ourselves since we moved into the area right as school started and asked about playdates. While they all seemed to like the idea, no one really said "great, let's schedule." Since then, I've started small talk during drop-off/pick ups, but no one brings it up. [ Reply | More ]

Which girl does your daughter like the best though? Even as early as preschool, kids have their preferences. I would ask her which child she enjoys playing with during recess. Then get in touch with that kid's mom to schedule a play date. I think that you should go ahead and take the initiative in this case. Be specific, not vague (are you and your daughter free on such and such date?, etc.... could just be that the other moms are too flaky to initiate themselves). Probably better to stick with one-on-one play dates if your girl is a little on the shy side (three is a crowd). [ Reply | More ]
