[ - ] What do you think of giving DD a slightly Russian/Slavic name, but not a really overt one? So for example "hardcore" names would be like Olesya or Oksana or Kseniya or Snezhana. Those are really Slavic. But some names are "swingers" between East and West, like Nina, Tamara, Vera, Lyudmila, etc. 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

With any of the tough questions give really short answers, do not overwhelm dc with information. Whatever he or she is specifically asking about is all they can process and all you should tell them. [ - ] WWYD. Husband was homeschooled, close to family. MIL used to be nice to me, but then SIL (married into the family prior to me) decided she no longer likes me and sneakily lets me know. I ignore her behavior, but in the last year, MIL has changed her treatment of me, making me I have been labeled as the instigator, not SIL. We usually vacation with the whole family every other year. Should I say no this year? Thinking I will still attend other holidays because the grandparents are very kind to me, but sort of stick it to his Mom as a reminder that hey, we live 12 hours away, spending time with you is a CHOICE. 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

OR: Except how would seeing the house help you? You don't know if they own guns, are on psych meds or let their kids go up on the roof unsupervised. These are all things I have heard about. One friend said she picked up her child to find the kids being watched by the mom's father. The mom stepped out and figured it was ok. Sorry, not happening. [ Reply | More ]

My DD's best friend's mom is an MD. Their house is the most cluttered, messy place I've ever seen. Every inch of every surface is just covered with stuff. Stuff is just piled up. She has a F/T nanny and also a weekly cleaning lady. I always wonder what exactly the cleaning lady can DO-- toilets and sink, maybe? Nothing else is accessible. [ Reply | More ]

I find it hard to believe that it was as bad as you say. Perhaps you need to be a little more tolerant. Not everybody's house is sparkling clean. Did you really feel that your child was in danger or are you just being overprotective. Did you see broken glass, harmful chemicals or exposed wires? [ Reply | More ]

Hi there...I drew for you the Ace of Wands, reversed. This card represents new beginnings, the seed of a great project, but one that may have disruptive consequences. It could be that something great, like a new job opportunity or a home renovation, creates some conflict and discord. My advice would be to make sure that you pay close attention to your partners feelings in response to big changes - and to proceed mindfully, gently, and with eyes wide open when encountering change. [ - ] My mom is keen to look after my DD when I return to work. She is 55, very capable, but I worry about the dynamic. It is impossible to correct your own mother, or make her do things the way you want her to when she says "you turned out just fine". I know it isn't exactly possible with a nanny either, but my mom is big on sweet treats, McDonald's and little discipline. Grandma raised my cousin, and my cousin came to view her as more of a Mom than his actual mom. Cried for her etc etc. ladies on here seem to wish for family help all the time. I have it on hand, but I worry that I'll be creating a monster. Wdyt? 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I've noticed a tendency for the preschoolers I know who spend a lot of time in care of gparents to be spoiled, and I can see how this dynamic would happen. Maybe you can use your mom as 1/2 time sitter, hire a nanny/sitter 1/2 time? [ Reply | More ]

Could you use your mom one or two days a week and have a nanny or daycare other days? She gets to look after db and treats are limited to a couple of days. I wouldn't worry about db loving grandma more but often the grandparent starts telling the parents how to raise the child. [ Reply | More ]
