[ - ] Does your nanny have guaranteed hours? This means she gets paid 52 weeks a year whether you travel, let her go early etc. (doesn't necessarily mean she gets paid if she asks for time off beyond what you've negotiated for her own choice -extra vacation, sick days, etc). Guaranteed hours do not include banking hours for future use (although it is legal in the same pay period). I am just curious how many people offer this perk/security to their nannies. 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] Spin Off: another mom and I took our kids for pizza and a game place. We took another child too whose mom was busy. This third mom had taken our kids out several times and the least we could do was invite her daughter. So the mom who came with me flinched when we got the check for pizza (was $32) and I contributed $20. I never went on a play date with her before and generally am not in touch with her so didn't feel like I had to invite them. When we went to the game place, is he wen her daughter to play with me and the other ones so that basically I had to pay for her daughter's games. She also refused to share the expense of the other girl. It's not about the money, because it wasn't a lot but I think she is very stingy and feel used. Wdyt? 15 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

No notice no severance. You don't give two weeks for 18 months of (bad) service. No company does this, why would you expect and individual to do what most companies would not. Disagree. Regardless of how you feel about her now, she did work for you for 1.5 years, and is still relying on your income to live. If you can, I would give at least 2 weeks' severance (but no notice - let her go at the end of a day and have that be that). [ Reply | More ]

Agree w/no notice, but it's not the nanny's problem that OP kept her on while she was providing "bad service" - which, btw, is not what she says - she says not a good fit, which is not the same thing. Be a decent human being and give 2 weeks severance - many companies DO do this, btw. Don't look for excuses to save a few hundred dollars by rationalizing that the nanny did this to herself by not being great, while you let the situation continue. [ Reply | More ]

OP says it hasn't been a good fit for six months. It's important to address any issues you have with an employee of course, but a person who comes into your home and takes care of your children is in a different position than someone working for a company. Many companies don't treat their employees well, and there's no reason to copy them. Show respect to domestic workers. [ Reply | More ]

+1 That's when they start to sag. It's also when large breasts start to give you posture & back problems. Make sure you get liposuction at the same time - get rid of the fat around your breasts, upper arms, and back, so you can go with a smaller breast size and still have a good look. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Some of you might flame away but for I have to vent/ share anyways. My houseguest who is staying with me for a month knows that my nanny just left. Her sitter is on a paid time off and she did not offer any help of any sort. Just told me that she has numbers of back up sitters. How do people behave like this? If I were a self imposed houseguest for a month I would just offer my sitter to the hostess for free. Makes me wonder if I am too soft and she is just taking advantage of me. 19 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

She already made an agreement with her sitter, who presumably has made other plans. That's DONE. It's not like she's refusing to lend you her vaccum. If you need more help from your actual houseguest, talk to her about it, but expecting the sitter to forego her vacation is unreasonable. [ Reply | More ]
