Decide who is paying for what. Basic goal is everyone has same amount of disposable income, so bills divided based on ability to pay [ Reply | More ]

We have same amount of life insurance, through my job. I pay both premiums. He has saved way less for retirement to date, because his jobs didn’t come with plans until recently. He now saves nearly 20k and I only save like 12k. He may catch up in the next ten years. [ Reply | More ]

Is “ability to pay” based on pretax income or take home income? [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 02.20.18, 03:48 AM Flag

We aren’t that specific. Really. It’s flexible and fluid. I’m supposed to pay the taxes but if I don’t have it when the Bill is due, he does it. I just wrote him a big check for credit card because he had fallen a bit behind, and I’m not going to ask to be paid back [ Reply | More ]

I think it’s great that it works for you, esp with kids. It seems too complicated to me. If we had separate finances and I was paying in proportion to my income, I would not want to cut back my hours for the kids. I would insist on much cheaper housing, childcare, and education options than we have now because even paying my share would be more than I’d be comfortable paying. I think the problem might be if there’s a big disparity in income, or one spouse inherits money. But that’s just me. [ Reply | More ]

I’m going to inherit eventually. But we started with joint finances, but dh and I had very different attitudes towards money. It wasn’t worth the arguments, I have always been conservative and he pays for restaurants and stuff like that because if I looked at those bills we would eat pb and j way more often. We almost never talk about money. Yes will also say that my mother saved nearly eight million dollars to my fathers two because they had separate money. If they divorced. Of course it would be split, but joint money means you spend the way 9me or the other wants [ Reply | More ]

PP We have. We have all money in joint accounts and do our household budget together monthly. I think it’s better to decide the spending together — letting each just spend independently might be less contentious in the short term, but in the long term if one of you is broke, then what? His/Hers/Ours accounting. All income goes into the household account, which pays all the household bills, including the kids' bills. Both of us get a set amount redirected every month into our individual accounts to cover personal expenses (same amount to both of us) - clothes, lunch at work, gifts for each other, hobbies, etc - no questions asked - I don't see what he spends on golf, he doesn't know what I spend on shoes. DH has always earned a lot more than I do. [ Reply | More ]

That’s similar to us except for the individual accounts. When we do our budget we each get an equal amount to spend, no questions asked, but if it had to be secret we have to pay cash rather than using the debit card. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Wondering if anyone has had experience with this - my 9 year old is a very happy, content kid. Doing well in school, lots of friends and I am genuinely 100% confident he is not unhappy. However over the past few months he has mentioned that he likes to do things like bending back his finger to make it hurt. And one confusing thing he said once was that "I don't like it when everything is comfortable, when its not hot or cold, and I'm lying in bed really comfortable, because it is so boring not feeling anything". He has said a few other similar things over the past few months - just in a "isn't this curious" kind of way, but it is definitely worrying me that there would be a predisposition to self harm later on in life when he does encounter problems/unhappiness. 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Will it all fall into place once she starts K and the moms will become friends and send the girls together, i.e. : Day camps when they are little and eventually a few of them will go to sleep away etc. She's my eldest so I have no experience with this at all. As far as this summer, its a wash since many of her friends will go camps if their school of choice offers one - i.e. Dalton, Nightingale etc. our new school didn't offer camp. 11 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Some parents will spend the summers out of the city. It can be better for your child to go to camps--especially sleep-away camp--that her school friends don't attend. The single-sex schools are small and learning how to make other friends gives your child a bigger world. [ Reply | More ]

I have a TT life by every measure including HHI in the millions, impressive education and family background, thin and beautiful, dream life and all that jazz, but I secretly stalk an obese mom blogger with HHI 40k because I think she's the most amazing woman I've ever come across and has the coolest life. I've been stalking her blog and instagram for almost a decade. I legit flat out copy her organizational and home decor tips, her fashion choices, her travel destinations, and her overall lifestyle habits because I think she has such good ideas that have improved my life enormously. Only my DH knows how much I stalk this woman, not in a creepy way but I definitely admire her a great deal. She's smart, savvy, funny, confident in her eccentricities, and I try to be more like her in my every day life since she's basically a better version of me. I found her blog years ago because we happened to share a similar niche interest. She only has a few hundred readers, but she posts every day. I think she is awesome and strive to be like her. The thing is I think she would say yes if I asked her, but then if she was inundated with mean comments I would feel horrible for being the one who brought that onto her by introducing her to UB. I've actually never seen any mean comments on her blog ever. And she's already a bit sensitive and neurotic as is, so idk. I know I used to let the trolls get to me when I first found UB many years ago and it took a good few years of regular usage here to start letting the trolling roll off my back and not let it affect me and start seeing it as more just funny/pathetic than mean. Now I have much thicker skin, but idk how she would handle it if she were attacked. [ Reply | More ]

I'll consider it. I'd be exposing myself as well since my comments are all over her blog, and I use my real name. Dh would not be happy about that since he's more security conscious than I am. But at this point I'm kind of sick of being anonymous. I mean I love the utility of an anonymous forum as a tool, but I feel like I've bared my soul on here for pretty much my entire adulthood and at this point I forget why I'm even concerned about anonymity. So many of you have helped me through my darkest times, and I just want to come out of the anonymous closet already, say thank you, and evolve to the next step. I'll talk to Dh about it. He's out of town now but gets back tomorrow. I wish I could private message people on here. I would private message you the link. What would you guys think about an UB reddit group? It's anonymous and you can use one screenname or multiple screennames (without needing to confirm an email address or anything like that), and best of all we can private message people. I will make a group and then if you want to private message me there, we can take it from there. :) [ Reply | More ]

well the weird thing is that we when I found her we were living somewhat parallel lives in that she was very similar to me in niche interests, hobbies, tastes, personality, etc. We even had the same favorite books, same taste in men, and same life goals. It was sort of like seeing a version of me in the future, and I thought it was pretty cool so I kept reading her blog. She's 10 years older than me. I've never met someone more similar to me before than her so it was fun finding her out there in cyberspace living in another state in a different parallel life so to speak. I think she's a more "together" version of me if that makes sense. Like she has all my same neurotic eccentricities and self deprecating humor I do, but instead of pushing that aside and trying to act like it doesn't exist (or only letting it out anonymously on UB and other anonymous websites) she lets her freak flag fly and writes hilarious posts about her every day life happenings. It's just so genuine and relatable, and I admire her willingness to not give any fucks if people think her blog posts are over the top or TMI. I really admire her ballsyness, and want to be more like that in my life. She frequently overthinks and overcomplicated things like I do and seeing the funny way things turn out for her when she does that and the way she just laughs at herself is pretty great IMO [ Reply | More ]

She has posted it a few times. A lot of her posts involve how she stretches her budget in creative ways. If you didn't read her posts and only looked at her instagram pictures you would probably think she lives a very upper class life, but when you read her blog posts she talks about how the ways she is able to afford all of the things she posts about. And it's not like she is "faking" or pretending to be richer than she is because she links to her blog posts on all her instagram pictures. Her money saving tips are interesting but that part isn't so much what interests me because honestly her money saving tips seem kind of exhausting (lots of free online giveaways, writing to companies and asking for free stuff in exchange for her blogging about it, stuff like that.) I'm mainly interested because of the unconventional ways she lives her life. Her life hacks, so to speak. And I find her personality very endearing as well. Her posts make me laugh because of her raw honesty. I have a thing for unfettered honesty and realness. That's why I like UB. I can come here and be me. Yet everyone calls me fake, when really I'm not posting fake stuff, but in any case, I like the honesty of UB. What I like about her blog is that she just puts all her honesty in her blog and goes "all in" with putting her unconventional life on display. So you can't really call it "fake" since there are literally pictures and videos of it every day. I think it would be cool to do that someday and just have the guts to put my life out there like that and say "hey, this is me. Haters come at me, but I'm gonna be my weird self. Love me or hate me, I don't don't give a fuck. I'm gonna do me either way." [ Reply | More ]

Well I highly doubt she is lying because she is a SAHM and her DH is in a government job, and I looked him up in a government database once (because clearly I'm creepy as fuck) and it confirmed what she said on her blog. I mean I suppose that it's hypothetically possible she has secret family money and is just pretending to be poor and making fake posts about how to save money but....like...why? I don't think she is lying about anything. She says plenty of very unflattering things about herself, so if she were just putting on a show I don't think she would post so many things like that. I think she truly values raw honesty the way I do. She is kind of a controversial lover her or hate her kind of person, which I totally get. And she embraces it, which I hope to someday reach that level of life and be more like that. But for now, here I am on an anonymous forum, as I am every night. Le sigh. [ Reply | More ]

Honestly, and I say this with the nicest intentions, I think it's how you phrase this. hm, thank you for the feedback, and I see what you are saying. I don't try to phrase things in a trolling way, but I also don't try to sugar coat things, so I often get accused of "trying to troll" when I am in fact just being honest and blunt. In day to day life I see nothing odd about following this person's blog, but the reason I posted it here in a manner that makes it seem like a controversial thing to do is because the culture of UB is one that is very class-conscious. People constantly talking about HHI and NOKD and trying to assess the class level of those around them. So in that light I do think it's sort of a shock to UB's system to see that I am defying that cultural standard that UB seems to revolve around. Sort of like someone on UB saying "I live in a rural area. Any questions?" Living in a rural area isn't really something to write home about since it's hardly uncommon, but on UB it's a perspective that we don't really hear from much, so it's interesting. I guess that's where I was coming from. Like "hey guys, not all of us strive to be like those who have more money. Many of us strive to be like people who have LESS money. Care to hear more from that perspective?" So maybe I did subconsciously WANT to start a discussion and get feedback. But I don't see that as "trolling" since it's honest. Guess it depends on your definition of trolling though. Does that make sense? [ Reply | More ]

Her DH is in a low paying field, and she's a SAHM. They are both highly educated and could make much more if they both worked and if her DH took a higher paying job, but that isn't what aligns with their value system. They are very much all about family and family time rather than career success or learning in. They also live in a lower cost of living area so I wouldn't say they are poor. Maybe lower middle or middle class, but with all their creative cost saving tips and life hacks to get free stuff and free trips, they actually live a pretty upper middle class or even upper class life. Sure. One thing she does is interact with companies a great deal. Like she will email or tweet or blog about or instagram post about companies (usually all of the above) explaining how a certain product would be helpful to her and tagging the company in the explanation. Or if she has a product she doesn't like she will talk about why she doesn't like it and then explain what she would like better. Then she can sort of pit companies against one another to compete in their responses to her post since companies on social media always want to plug their products when tagged or appear helpful to people who post about their products on the company page. Basically she just does unconventional stuff like that and if you do that enough times then a certain number of times will pay off. she has gotten lots of free stuff that way. [ Reply | More ]

And it's not like she is shaming them into giving her things or "begging" in a pathetic way or anything like that. More like she will post funny stories about a mishap that happened with a product and paint a hypothetical scenario of what OTHER product would have been so much better. Then she tags the company she is targeting and they just LOVE the opportunity to swoop in and be the hero and offer to send her a free product to use. Then she blogs about the new product and posts an update on the story and maintains a relationships with the company by rating their stuff and commenting on their posts a lot and they send her other stuff in the future which she then posts pics of on their social media. Basically it comes down to the fact that she is hypersocial on social media and always interacting with others. She's also pretty funny so her stories are heartfelt and like just the right combination of relatable and silly and self deprecating and they sort of lure the company right into wanting to be the hero in their own little marketing story. She plays into their marketing tropes well and uses their own stories against them I guess. She's kind of a master at it. But that's not the majority of her blog, that's only like 10% of her blog, and honestly I often skip those posts because I'm just not interested in learning how to spending dozens of hours in facebook or twitter exchanges in order to save a bit of money. But I can see how her stuff is useful to people, and I admire how unconventional her approaches are. My favorite posts of hers are her book reviews and travel reviews and just general thoughts on life and human nature. [ Reply | More ]

I don't think so, since she's not scamming them, she's providing details and honest reviews of their products and comparisons to their competitor's products so as long as they are coming our with new products and their competitors are coming out with new products, then her reviews and comparisons will remain useful to them. I think she is on their radar for sure, but it costs them so little in the grande scheme of things to send her these products especially in comparison to the business she is probably bringing in with her tweets and facebook posts since she includes videos and pictures and captions and in general is just very good at story boarding scenarios and giving a human face to these products which I think the companies appreciate. I wouldn't be surprised if she gets regular offers to join their marketing teams, but I know she wouldn't want to do that since she is dedicated to being a SAHM. But my point is I don't think anyone is seeing it as scamming, I probably just didn't do a good job at explaining her method. It's most just her being a "fan" of lots of products. Like LOTS of products. [ Reply | More ]

aww. **blushing emoji** That's nice of you. Would love to meet you as well. :) And ya I'd like to meet this blogger one day in person too, but I'd almost be worried that the real thing could destroy my idealized version of her, so I would almost like to keep that idealized version. She has said in a few blog posts that she isn't very friendly in person and she doesn't think people in real life really like her that much since they see her as aloof and cold. It's possible she's just self-conscious though and projecting her own fears of what they think of her and really they do like her. I don't think she has may friends though since all her pictures are her with her DH and kids. She says she would rather open up online than in person to people which is why she spills her guts online. She's very introverted, which I definitely relate to. I spill my guts online too, but I do it anonymously since I guess I'm a coward. But one day I will make a blog and post it on UB. One day when I gather up the courage. For now I shall stick to anonymously emailing people on UB and reddit. :-/ To me I almost think I can be MORE honest when I'm anonymous since the anonymity is like a security blanket where you can explore feelings and experiment with self grow in the comfort of a place where no one you know sees you struggling to figure out how to grapple with these inner turmoils. I have a massive crush on my DH's gay coworker. DH and I sometimes have fantasies where we pretend his coworker joins us for sex. I think we just like the novelty of it. Sometimes our imaginary third is a man and sometimes a woman. It's always someone we know. I always initiate the fantasy since I'm more into role play and non-vanilla sex. We talk through scenarios to set the scene like pretending the third person comes over for dinner or something like that. Then once we get going with the sex we stop talking. There's not really a cohesive narrative arc to our pretend threesomes stories. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, I think you are right that the reality may be different. And I would never just approach a friend like that out of the blue. We have dropped casual hints and jokes in the presence of a few select friends while vacationing with them in the past. I mentioned while tipsy how my fantasy was to have a threesome on my 40th birthday. They laughed and smiled. Now if one of them approaches us on my 40th birthday and says they remember what I said years ago and asks am I still interested, then maybe it could happen. But I wouldn't approach. [ Reply | More ]

Hard to answer simply. Lost time. Different handwriting. Main alter doesn’t look like me and I can catch her in mirror. Alters come out to docs. Once they came out to me while I was conscious. I have 24 but only 5 come out. The other 19 think they are people living a happy life. They have no idea they are alters. Of the five that come out, one is the gatekeeper, one is her enforcer, a boy, of is a little girl, and two savants, who are young adults. I can’t tell you what the savants can do. I’ve never told the docs or anyone else. It’s other worldly. I have real super powers. Oh, and one alter can write on my skin, like a tattoo. [ Reply | More ]
