Most american bridges were engineered to last 50 yrs before needing major repairs or to be overhauled. The average US bridge is nearing 50 yrs old and 1 in 9 needs major repairs. This is like 60,000 bridges in the US. In the case of the Italian bridge, it was struck by lightning. So sad. [ Reply | More ]

Bridges have to pass regular inspections, though. It's not like there was a bridge built over 50 years ago and no one pays attention. There are a lot of rules surrounding safety of bridges, old and new. Yes, very sad about the Italian bridge though. Again, though, freak accident and not the norm. Will be the norm if we eliminate responsibilities for safety though. [ Reply | More ]

5 years ago. A bunch of my friends and I drove to Orlando to go to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios. I was 52. We were a bit buzzed, so I did things I normally wouldn't, like going on that ride that dropped straight down (Dr. Doom's Free Fall?). UGH! I can do roller coasters that do sharp, banking turns and upside down loops with no fear, but I hate the feeling of falling straight down. We went on lots of roller coaster rides that night and I managed to keep my dinner down. [ Reply | More ]

Here is my job hunting advice (that may not apply to you). Don't let the process distract you from the mission which is getting a job. The informational interviews and the resume cleaning up etc are all things that people do to avoid the painful parts. Write a resume. Be as clear as you can and read it from the eye of the hiring manager. Every line should answer the question "Whats in it for me." I even recommend tailoring each resume to each specific job. Mention the keywords from the job ad. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 08.14.18, 05:12 PM Flag

Your linked in should have searchable key words that someone without a lot of specific knowledge can search for. "Honest and reliable" are not key words. Searchable words are specific skills, certifications or software programs for example. A specific project management certification for example. The name of the method. the name of the program used [ Reply | More ]

np: Agree with all this. Customize the resume for each job and put as many key words in as sounds natural because unfortunately many companies now use sorting software and you won't even get a person to look at your resume unless the software flags it as a match. [ Reply | More ]

Yup. Or there is a screener that is very low level. You can easily get weeded out. Also very important to use standardized titles. Business Analyst. Project Manager. or even use the title of the one from the job add. make it as easy as possible for the screener. [ Reply | More ]
