^^ since wed morning, my left, lower arm feels numb, but not the whole arm, just the top part (hard to explain) as if I had had anesthesia and it's wearing off... and it has not changed since then! What is this? Should I go see a doctor? I have no other symptoms. But I'm scared. Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks [ Reply | More ]

sounds like a pinched nerve in your neck. The nerve roots in your neck connect to your upper extremities [ Reply | More ]

nothing will happen if that's what it is. Basically sounds like you need to go to physical therapy - that should help. [ Reply | More ]

I get a numbish left arm pretty often. My doctor is not at all concerned about it. I doubt what you have is anything bad, but it couldn't hurt to mention it to your interist. Could be a pinched nerve, or maybe you are just sleeping funny on it. [ Reply | More ]

^^^my numb left arm is accompanied by chest pains, though, which makes it even more worrisome. After many tests my doctor thinks I'm just a hypochondriac. [ Reply | More ]

really? that can cause chest pain as well? I will mention this to my doctor. If you have a disc issue, could it hurt for a long time, or would it eventually get better? [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 05.23.08, 05:19 PM Flag
»
well, it could hurt for years, or forever, or it could get better. If there's impingement on the nerves from a disc out of place then p/t sometimes helps realign things and releases the impingement. Or could be inflammation and the swelling is causing the nerve to be pinched. Try an anti-inflammatory (Advil). See a neuro, may send you for an MRI of your neck. Yes, it could cause chest pain as well. But it depends on the kind of chest pain - dh just had this as well, was having trouble breathing b/c it hurt his chest. Turns out it's herniated discs in his neck and upper back [ Reply | More ]

wow, this is so interesting! the pain in my chest often seems to travel to my upper back and shoulder too. This could be the cause of all my chronic pains (at least it is worth looking into!) I've had chest xrays, EKGs, bloodwork, an echocardiagram, a mammogram... this actually makes sense. Thanks [ Reply | More ]

neuro mom: can't give you a diagnosis over UB obviously, but is mostly likely due to a disc in your neck. Call your MD, but if you get sudden severe pain in neck, or other weakness/numbness, trouble controlling urine or stool, go to the ED. [ Reply | More ]

NOT suggesting she's having a stroke. Those are all symptoms of a herniated disc which is getting worse. Her kinds of symptoms are usually just treated with physical therapy. She wanted an answer from an MD. [ Reply | More ]

op- neuro mom, if the symptoms have been the same since Wed am (basically just numbness in arm) do you think it can be safe to say it will not get worse... I am just more worried, because as I mentioned earlier, I am totally alone with toddler. No family or friends around and I really hope I won't have to go to the ER... [ Reply | More ]

probably won't get worse, but I'd avoid any heavy exercise, and resist the temptation to have a chiropracter manipulate your neck without having an MRI first to see what the problem is. [ Reply | More ]

He was always very 'intense' (his ped's word), even when he was an infant. We didn't really know until he was 3 yo, and started preschool. He obsesses about things like vacuum cleaners or his socks, weird stuff like that. And he can't function very well in large groups of children - he can play one-on-one, but in a classroom setting, or at a party or a playground, he sort of goes in a shell. He is in a special needs class now. He is diagnosed with Asperger's. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] have a 5mo db that is several times a night. Have a dh who travels 3-4 nights a week. Also have a toddler. I feel like I'm fine during the day - can handle the kids, have a good social network, etc. When the sun starts to set, and I anticipate the night, or when I'm up at night I turn into an evil person. Cuss at my husband, cry, hate my life, etc. Am I depressed or just sleep deprived? Should I talk to my doc about it? 23 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

db weighs 14 lbs. She eats about 5 oz every three hours (total of 5 bottles) during the day and one to two 4 oz bottles at night. I have tried and tried to get her to drink more than 5 oz during the day, but she won't. [ Reply | More ]

how many times p/night is she up? I used to wake to feed #1 at around 10:30-11 pm before I went to bed so I could get a few hours in after that. My #2 was still getting up 2x's p/nt to eat also at that age. Do you ff or bf? Honestly, try formula at night, it may hold her longer. [ Reply | More ]

I used to find the evenings very difficult also - also feared night time when db #2 was up often - I could never bring myself to CIO. Finally at 10 mos when I was at my wits end I bought Ferber and before I even had a chance to read it #2 started sleeping through the night. Not that this helps you right now...but the end is in sight. I think there's something about being alone at night that just makes the crying and the stress of 2 kids harder than it is when the sun it out. [ Reply | More ]
