[ - ] From InsideSchools this morning... Monday, June 16 G+T Update: Courier Service Posted by helen at 8:21 AM Parents citywide should have g+t kindergarten and first grade placement results no later than today, according to the DOE, which used couriers to hand-deliver letters across all five boros -- even in Staten Island, according to one commenter. Apparently, the fallout from pre-K had big bureaucratic repercussions: "We identified issues that caused confusion with some pre-Kindergarten placements, so we ran additional checks on the gifted and talented placements -- especially the placements for siblings," said DOE press spokesman Andy Jacob. The extra efforts were made to "ensure that parents receive clear and accurate information," according to Jacob. "We delivered the letters via courier because we wanted parents to get the letters when they expected them, and with sufficient time to accept or decline their offers." Parents can also expect duplicate letters via conventional post. Timing is crucial for schools as well: As these last days of school unfold, schools that will receive new students need to know who's coming, in order to plan their mix of classes. If you expect a placement letter and don't have one by the end of the day today, telephone OSEPO's elementary placement office, at 212 374-4948 . They're following up on undeliverables, but a quick hello can't hurt. (And if you have a chance, drop us a note, too - curious to see how many deliveries found their mark, and how many went awry.) 15 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

how old is your nephew? At some point, $$ can be a great gift. If he is 3 though, not so much. I guess you may have to just keep trying. Tell her you understand why she left your bro. Try to be on her side as much as you can. Just don't give up. If she is hurting and angry, it may take awhile. In the end, you will have to respect her wishes, but maybe after a time, you can gain her confidence. [ Reply | More ]

While the districts that get the most hype are Scarsdale, Bronxville, Rye, Chappaquaetc. which are quite pricey, you can get a decent house and good schools in Eastchester, Ardsley, Armonk, Mt. Pleasant and Pleasantville. (Westchester is pricey, but in some of those districts you can get something nice enough at around 650-700K v. a tiny fixer-upper in the S,B,R and C.) [ Reply | More ]

I wouldn't go for Eastchester or Mt. Pleasant school districts personally, look at Rye Neck, Poncantico Hills, Ardsley,Irvington, Mamaroneck and Hastings in Westchester. Rye Neck, Irvington, Hastings and Poncantico Hills are small school districts and so have more of a private school feel which is nice. Armonk is a pricey place in general you may end up being one of the poor people there. www.greatschools.net is a good website for researching schools in NJ, CT and NY, they have a rating for elem schools and middle schools and an overall rating for the school district. Westchester - you can get homes for less than a $1M in Larchmont, Mamaroneck (Rye Neck and Mamaroneck school district), Ardsley, Hastings and Irvington all good school districts. You can even get a home in Chappaqua, Scarsdale and Rye for less than a $1m but these districts have a reputation for being snotty you may not want to be the 'poor' and most likely 'looked down on' family there. I am pretty sure he does not have the same feelings about me- not that I am prepared to do anything about it anyway. I went through something similar a while ago. He just got remarried and for some reason, that seems to have put a stop to it. All I can tell you is not to let it consume you. There is no such thing as a soul mate. There are many people we could all be happy with to some degree. Feel the feelings you have and let them go. Make sure you continue to focus on your DH and kids and how they are so important to you. Try and see if he represents something else in your life that you are missing - freedom, some pursuit you let fall by the wayside etc. [ Reply | More ]
