I skip the Caribbean that time of year...hurricane season..easier to drive home from Jersey, if absolutely necessary. Try a condo at SeaPointe Village in Diamond Beach/Wildwood Crest NJ or a room in Cape May, NJ at Congress Hall. Both have low key kids programs, and good service as an right near the beach. DH is one. He went to the bookstore and read the acknowledgments of books he liked/similar writing style/etc. to find the names of their agents. He put together a query letter and sent it to 6 agents at a time. About half each time would ask for the manuscript. When he didn't hear from any of the first three after two months, he sent a second batch, but his first choice agent from first round ended up taking him as a client. [ Reply | More ]

rest time in room with stories on CD (Jim Weiss is great, lots of good classics from the library or blackstoneaudio.com or amazon.com or audible.com). either he lays on bed or he plays with duplos on the floor while he listens. if he's really tired, he can fall asleep. if not, he gets some downtime and you get a break. My almost 5 yo and 3 yo both do this in separate rooms. Occasionally they sleep, but I prefer them to just rest in general or they don't go to sleep easily at night. [ Reply | More ]

if you look at Jim Weiss, he might like the Robinhood CD (my DDS LOVE it). Tall Tales, Animal Tales, etc. all great. He's a really good storyteller. There are tons of choices. My girls have also listened to Charlotte's Web, all 4 volumes of Winnie the Pooh, Beatrix Potter, etc. (you can get it from Blackstone Audio or Amazon or check if the NYPL has free digital downloads (our library gives permission to burn your own CD for quite a few things, but doesn't work if you have a mac) [ Reply | More ]

no. It's really kind of segregated by neighborhood. There are very few black people in the heavily white neighborhoods. I guess in the lower income neighborhoods it's getting more "diverse" because the white people are seing bargains and moving into traditionally black or latin neighborhoods. it won't be that way for long though, they're be heavily white just like most of the other neighborhoods. That said, if you look at manhattan as a whole, as a single unit, it is incredibly diverse. [ Reply | More ]
