[ - ] What's the deal with street parking and the biweekly street cleaning? Do people actually hire somebody to sit in the car on those days? Also, isn't the whole moving car to the other side of the street while the cleaner goes through and moving back to your old spot nerve wrecking? I can imagine how somebody would just swoop in and "steal" your spot or cars blocking each other etc. etc. 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

so, it is more a variation of survival of the fittest? Once the cleaner goes through it's everyone on her own to get some parking spot? That makes it even worse. [ Reply | More ]

It varies but the general rule (UNOFFICIAL RULE) is if double parking is "allowed" in your neighborhood then you double park before the deadline and stay in/with your car until the dealine. If you are boxing someone in, leave a cell phone number on your dashboard. Then ten minutes before alt side ends, move your car to the about to become legal side. Usually this courtesy is allowed only on one way streets without schools or firehouses. Do not be late moving back! That ticket is more. [ Reply | More ]

you must be doing it wrong. try this. put db to bed. go back in, every 5 minutes, talk, soothe, pat, but dont pick up. first night it will be an hour plus, by fourth night should go to bed on own. if he wakes a night, do you feed? either way, do same thing for night wakings, every five mins go in. this worked great for us. I'll go in if he's been hysterical for a long time, but for the most part we're doing more of the Weissbluth technique than Ferber. It gets better (started at 2 hours and got down to 12 minutes) but then the next night it's back to 45 min then back to 2 hours! [ Reply | More ]

NP: You don't know anything. OP, go with what works. If he gets more hysterical when you go in or if it keeps him more awake, then it's cold turkey. Otherwise, a graduated method (aka Ferber) is a little more sane. Also, although Weissbluth doesn't talk about it, teething messes with sleeping until about 18 months. There will be good and bad nights. The main thing is to be consistent with sleep time rituals and timing. Other than that, cold turkey, Ferber, sit in the room until he's asleep -- it's all good. They aren't separate things, nimrod. First of all, a well-rested baby is a happy baby. Second, constantly going in "to reassure the baby" is really about you, not the baby. Third, a well-rested parent is a better parent. Sleep-deprived martyrs aren't exactly the best caretakers. [ Reply | More ]

OP: I am a Weissbluth fan, but I don't think it should be followed doctrinaire if it isn't working. Ferber's method is to soothe at gradually longer intervals: 5 minutes, then 10, then 15. just went back to work after dc#3 and its going as well as it can go. as far as work goes, it was like i never left. as far as the kids go, i really miss them, it was hard to go back to work this time. everyone is adjusting. the juggling is the hardest part, next to missing my kids of course. [ - ] My pet peeve of the day. Women who take their marriages and DH way to seriously. By that I mean --men are idiots. They are like overgrown children and they do stupid idiotic things. We as women should mock them for this. It's nice to sit around with your girlfriends and compare notes on whose DH's is a bigger idiot. However there is always that one women who is like "my DH is so great. He is perfect" Blah blah blah. She never has anything but the most glowing praise. Whatever... I LOVE men and I LOVE my DH, but as a gender and a species they are idiots. 21 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I feel that way about moms with their kids. Some moms can never lighten up-- never tease a kid, always jump at their every wish... I think, those women are in for a world of hurt. [ Reply | More ]

you know what? if someone posted here that she was dating a guy who liked her very much but felt that women in general were foolish and unintelligent, everyone would tell her to get far away from this guy. you can call me uptight until the cows come home. you can say i take things too seriously until you are blue in the face. i wouldn't marry someone i thought was an overgrown child and i wouldn't want to be married to someone who thought that and that i was an idiot. and i certainly wouldn't want my spouse sitting around with her friends and trashing me. np: oh, come on. What's she's saying is, lighten up. You think men (your dh included) don't sit around together and talk about what nutcases women can be? Of course they do. Doesn't mean they don't love and respect us. No need to be so earnest. [ Reply | More ]

news flash. most men do thing women are generally crazy and foolish. If your DH won't admit this, then he is L.Y.I.N.G. and just telling you what you want hear --whcih is probably why you think he is perfect in the first place. [ Reply | More ]

Anderson has an orientation morning where the kids meet the teachers and a new family picnic (both in June) and the FOA(fundraising assocation for Anderson) has a cocktail party for new parents. But I don't know what the plan is this year. [ Reply | More ]

i don't remember an FOA cocktail party for new parents. back when we were notified in february, new families were invited to the auction, but i can't remember any cocktail party (except the one organized by the class itself at someone's apt, once school started). [ Reply | More ]

Yes there is a classroom orientation and picnic for the families after school. However, it all depends if the school gets the list of the kids coming in time to pull it off this year, they are cutting it very close. [ Reply | More ]
