[ - ] Does anyone know what the actual curriculum is like for District G&T's? I know Anderson actually accelerates subjects like math. But what do the District schools do? Just add enrichment to the regular curriculum? Is the benefit really in the peer group, or is there some meaningful difference in the level or type of instruction? 11 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

when I toured last yr the schools generally said same cirriculum, but went deeper into subjects given peer group. Anderson the only thing they accelerate is Math by one year. Hunter said they accelerate, but did say what and by how many yrs. [ Reply | More ]

Same curriculum, more enrichment, and definitely an easier to teach student body which makes teaching more effective and topics can be covered with more depth. No acceleration, though. [ Reply | More ]

I think it really depends on the school/teacher. There is standard curriculum that is followed, but kids are capable of working doing more advanced work and some teachers do accelerate and individualize instruction for kids that are ready for more than the standard curriculum. [ Reply | More ]

and, this is not at all a rap on G&T's some teachers will individualize and accelerate in Gen Eds as well. [ Reply | More ]

Of course they will, that is a hallmark of a good teacher. But I do think it is easier to do at G&T where all kids tend to master the standard curriculum with relative ease, so the teacher does not have to spend most of his/her time with the kids that are behind, like is the case at gen eds more often than not. My husband takes the position that exes meeting up are rarely if ever purely innocent. I don't have a problem with it, but I would get on the phone with the ex-girlfriend and point blank ask her why she wishes to meet with my husband? If "she's innocent" she won't have a problem getting her point across and chatting with me. Also to let her know I'm a member of the slap-a-hoe tribe. [ Reply | More ]

Hunter accepts 24 boys and 24 girls, but the cut-off score (which is 148 this year) is a number that limits the pool of boys and girls to around 200. Therefore, you have to split up the 200 boys and girls into the respective gender and then look at your potential. For example this year there are 120 girls and 80 boys, so a boy has a 24 out of 80 chance to get in, while the girl has a 24/120 chance to get in. See the difference. [ Reply | More ]

yeah, i think i'm going to pass on it. i usually only send them out to relatives we never see - all my close friends don't need one because i'll be entertaining/seeing them during the holidays [ Reply | More ]

I can always tell when you are here...its the only time dumb posts about fake sex affairs start popping up and how great you think they are, blah blah blah. Did you just get out of classes and sign on? [ Reply | More ]

and what does that matter, o'thinks-o'meself as sex'lly liberated laaaady? if you are so mature and cool to cheat, why not with strangers? isn't that more respectful anyway? [ Reply | More ]

I find this super fake. No chick who is busy enough to be having all these hot, torrid affairs is wasting time and energy posting on stupid UB in the middle of the day. Fakey fake. [ Reply | More ]

the word "torrid" always strikes me funny now, since it has become the name of a sad little franchise of mall boutiques catering to fatties. That is probably who this "tiger" is, a tubby who daydreams about her children's gym teachers or the local contractor. [ Reply | More ]

I give her a two. You didn't offend me, I just hate the term because it seems acceptable to make fun of overweight people. And either she is lying, or I agree with poster who asses her as a Borderline. [ Reply | More ]

Dh's trick (probably NA this year, but just in case) when they tell you amt of raise, stay silent. The other person will jump in and improve it--works every time. Even if it's not about $, leaving yourself a little pause to reflect somehow compels the other person to negotiate. [ Reply | More ]
